Title: Recommended turn signals? (F)
Post by: SteveSweetz on June 04, 2013, 07:17:49 PM
Hi everyone,

I just got my motorcycle license this year (at the age of 30) and picked up a 2008 GS500F for my starter bike.  So far I love it, but last week I took a corner faster than I should have (because I was stupid - but I don't intend to make the same mistake twice) and crashed into a thankfully soft muddy embankment.  Apart from a torn turn signal stalk, a bent faring bracket that was easily fixed, and a few minor scratches on the faring the bike didn't suffer any notable damage - nor did I.

So I need to replace the turn signal and while I'm at it, I thought I might pick up something a little sleeker; but I don't want flush mounts, I definitely want them to be seen.

I'm looking at signals like this (http://www.amazon.com/SIGNAL-Motorcycle-CRF230M-Aprilia-Kawasaki/dp/B009RCBKZG/ref=sr_1_5?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1370397852&sr=1-5), but I'm wary of cheap stuff.  Is there a particular model of turn signal that people would recommend?

Keep in mind that ANY LED light will need to be wired properly with resisters and such so they work properly. Unless you feel comfortable with modified wiring, get normal filament bulbs.

on the topic of resistors, where to find them how much resistance? etc. I've looked at similar LED turns and not bought them, even on sale 1/2 price.

diodes... not resistors .. look up Adidasguy 2 diode wiring modification...

apparently resistors can heat up a lot.... and by using a resistor you negate any power saving effect of the LED in the first place.  :thumb:

Thanks guys I'm pretty comfortable with wiring and knew about the need for resistors with LEDs (not diodes though - haven't come across that yet).

I'm not set on LEDs though, I'm fine with a nice set of filament signals if they look good.  Does anyone have some specific recommendations?
