I thought I'd share the results of my GS project.  This bike started out as  http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=44878.0 
I have since heavily modified it.  I'll leave this first post as a test for my picture sizes and describe the project in greater detail later....until then a couple quick pics.

Ok, so this project began when I purchased the bike from psyber_0ptix last fall with the express purpose to use it as a track bike. Not content to leave things alone, I decided to make some changes. First among those was a swingarm conversion. I'd read of others using early 90's gsxr arms, but got a very inexpensive SRAD gsxr 600 arm instead ('99). The srad arm uses a larger swingarm pivot and a 28mm vs 17 mm axle. Its also much wider at most all other points. I'll save you the details but I had to narrow the pivot width, turn spacers to match the pivot bearings, turn spacers to match the 17mm axle to the inside diameter of the 28mm srad axle(which was cut and welded onto the spacers and axle), and turn side to side spacers for the axle width. (Note, I have a metal lathe, manual milling machine and can tig weld aluminum and thin steel.) I also made spacers for the sprocket to cush drive holder. The rear brake is a 220mm gsxr 1000 wave rotor (stock gs is 240) that had to have custom spacers to get needed clearance. The rear caliper is a smaller gsxr K1 (iirc) mounted on the gsxr caliper hanger which was the only year that still had a drag link. A big problem was that the swingarm was too wide for the frame...So, I cut open the frame and boxed it back in to a wider width to fit the swingarm. I made new dog links for the shock linkage (94mm) and used the srad knuckle which was narrowed slightly and swapped in one of the narrower gs bearings.
I ditched the stock gs rearsets and got some gsxr1000 K11 (?) rearsets. I machined adapter plates to fit them to the frame and spacers to clear the again too wide swingarm. I used an RC51 rear master cylinder I happened to have and an R1 reservoir. A stock gs brake hose actually fits.
I didn't like the stock solid mount steel subframe so I cut it off and made an aluminum one instead. I also made a 4 cell LiPo battery to fit the subframe. The battery saves about 7 pounds of weight.  Of course if you make a new subframe the seat doesn't fit. So, I made a custom fiberglass tail unit/seat. The basic steps of which are use foam to make a buck, glass over the buck to make a mold and then glass the mold to make the part.  I like the way the tail turned out but I was jammed for time to make it to a track day and only had 3 days to make it, so it could be better.  Also note, I spent about 2 months working on everything described. I made a minocell foam seat and bump pad.
Again jammed for time, I sanded the tank, made custom yosh suzuki decals and painted it white.
The bike came to me with a yosh rs3 stainless slipon. The tubing was a bit boogered and it was a huge can, so I cut down the can (a pita, yosh makes em really well) and since it was all ss was able to reweld it into a shorter size. I'd have kept it as a side mount but didn't have time to futz with tubing so I made it undermount. It shouldn't drag to beyond 45 degrees, and thankfully never dragged during the track day I took it on. I did a number of other details but won't go into everything.
As mentioned I did take the bike on a track day, nothing broke or fell off!I t ran well although the rear spring is a little too stiff. I think the bike is pretty cool. The mods may not be lighter/better than stock but thats not why I did it.

Going forward I'm going to fab a new shock mount to use a modern 3 way oem shock (they'd rub the swingarm otherwise).
I'd also like to swap the stock carbs for gsxr 36mm ? or similar to get rid of the vacuum delay in initial throttle response, anyone know how to do that?

God. Damn. That is a hot bike.

Love the custom fiberglass tail. Looks like I need to learn to work with the stuff-- It somehow didn't occur to me that it was possible to get such professional results in your garage. Maybe this is the answer for my future GS streetfighter project.

Glad people like it,
It seems the tail is popular. Other than labor time, the glass work is fairly simple.  I'd encourage anyone interested to give it a try on your project. Mine is slightly more complex in that it is structural (it has a foam core in the seatpan) and more complex shapes than I'd like, but it still worked out well. I only have about 4 days into the tail.

the bike is beautiful! great job on all of the custom fab work! now excuse me while i drool over it for a couple of minutes  :thumb:
