Hello all
My fiancé has a 2005 gs500f and is a relatively new rider.
Tonight while riding home on the motorway at about 130kph the bike started lurching. At least that's how she described it. Basically it would run fine, then over rev, then lose all oomph then repeat. After about a minute she lost all power and had to pull over and couldn't get the bike to start again.
I've always had slightly more modern and problem free bikes so am no use at troubleshooting this.
Oil, petrol, all fluids etc are fine so any ideas what may be causing this would be great.
I've got to collect the bike tomorrow and push it a happy 10km if the worst comes to the worst so would much rather do a roadside fix.
Thanks in advance.
First thought, out of gas. It can look like a lot but isn't. Did you switch to reserve?
Second is dirty gas cap vent. Try running with the gas cap open and if OK, check the WIKI on how to clean it.
I have had similar problem with my bike, but it would start up again after pulling over. It was a carb vent hose getting pumped full of air at highway speeds.
Are you sure there is gasoline in the gasoline tank. When I first got the bike it took me awhile to learn how flat the bottom of the tank is. It can look relatively full and be totally empty as far as the tank petcock is concerned, especially if your reserve line was switched with the main line on accident.
