Hi guys,
I have been losing oil steadily from some place, which I thought was the cylinder base gasket, as it was around both sides of the engine only at the base. Then yesterday I noticed it was all over the back of the cam chain tensioner too, and what looked like drips on it. I cleaned it all up so I could check, after my short ride in to work this morning there was oil bubbling out of the centre part of the CCT
My question is, do I need to replace (with a new one) the CCT to fix this, or can I remove, clean it up and install a new gasket?
Thoughts appreciated :) And my '89 GS500 says thanks too!

ehh...someone else will probably chime in with more confidence, but I'd say you should get another CCT. I believe there is a gasket inside of it that is tricky to replace that seems to be busted. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the reply, if there's any doubt as to it's usability I'm quite happy to replace it. One more question for you guys, do you know what compatability there is between the years for the Cam Chain Tensioner? I found an auction for an '89 CCT (far older than I'd like to use as a replacement for my '89!) which says it does not fit later years. I heard there were only minimal changes over the years (and have 2006 brake discs/calipers on my '89) but was the CCT one of them?
The GS500s CCT has been revised 4 times. There's no compatibility issues between CCTs.
