Title: What do you think of this summer jacket?
Post by: Gorilla on June 07, 2013, 12:54:51 PM
Whats up guys,

I am starting to look at jackets for the Seattle Summer. For those of you whom dont know our summers consist of 70-90F weather. Mostly cool wind with bright sun. With a slight chance of rain almost every other day. I saw this jacket for sale and after reading reviews I am thinking of getting it for those hotter days.

Just in case your wondering for the colder/overcast days I planning on getting a Dianese Cage Leather Jacket or the REV'it Galactic Leather Jacket.

No experience with those jackets but over here in southern ontario we have EVERY kind of weather you can imagine so I need a really versatile jacket. I have an alpinestars textile jacket with removable waterproof/windproof liner. That liner makes all the difference. Without the liner I can comfortably wear it in 35deg Celsius weather and as long as I'm at speed it's nice and cool (the whole jacket is one big vent basically). But with the liner it's waterpoof and comfortable all the way down to 10deg Celsius.

Just get something with a nice removable liner and you'll have a jacket for any weather mother nature can throw at you.

Thanks for the response Wagoneer. Although I dont even plan on hitting 100mph on the bike i do plan to ride it on freeways. My father and along with some people say because of the way I intend to ride it I should stick with the Leather based Jackets. In your line of thinking however thats why i wanted two jackets. The Rev'it or Dianese for the 70farenheit below weather we have 80% of the tim here in washington and the Teknik for the current summer days.

Yeah I can see where you're coming from if you plan on doing a lot of high-speed driving leather is always safer. Multiple suits is probably your best bet then. I avoid the freeways here like the plague (nobody knows how to drive on them) but I do spend a lot of time having fun on back roads so I might invest in some leathers pretty soon. I did switch out all my armour to alpinestars CE certified stuff, but I know at high speeds if the armour gets torn off it won't do much good anyways.

At least I know I'm safer than the idiots who pass me going 200 in nothing but a tank-top and shorts  :thumb:

Most of the time its really cold here too so the REV'iT is looking real good for the Liner. I am not brand associated yet so im just going off the best possible reviews. Thanks for responding.

Ah that sucks. While I typically wear a large I had to get an XL in my jacket (not this jacket) to make it fit right. Food for thought, as they always mention sizing etc. Maybe the XL would fit? No idea.
Otherwise they have some good sales so if  you havent found one keep checking back or get on their email list. I believe a few other jackets are on sale right now there.

I realize a lot of people like other sites, I am no way affiliated with motorcyclegear.com but I do order from them a lot and really like them.

I will second the liner thing. What I like about the liner is if I am going to ride and the temps are going to change (day to night for example) I can throw the liner in a saddle or my new tank bag and go, if I need it its there. It would be much harder to bring a second jacket with me.

Good luck!

Yes, you are right about how liner is very useful. I have 2 jackets. One for winter and one for summer. The summer one is red and the winter one is blue. Each jacket has a liner you can put in and take out with zips to hold everything in place. I recommend a liner jacket to everyone for when day gets cold. You can keep your jacket liner  in your bike bag if you have one. In my experience cheap jacket sometimes as good as dear one. But with cheap jacket the zip is sonetimes bad,. You can rub candle on zip to provide lubrication and smoothness. My dad found that idea when he was in the army and told me about it when I had trouble with  a cheap Granger brand jacket in malaysia.
