I bought an 05 GS a couple years ago as my beginner. It was in bad shape, but served its purpose for the time being. That winter I did a fork seal/oil change, upgraded the forks and rear shock, and cleaned/rejetted out the carbs. Once I cleaned them and got them back on the bike it was riding season again, and it wouldn't start for more than a few seconds before dying! So I basically got fed up and bought an FZ6... A year later I have the FZ that I ride everyday and the GS that I haven't touched once. So I decided to give it another shot.
Took the carbs off last night, thoroughly cleaned them and put them back together. Funny how much easier it was to do all that since I've done it before, even if it was over a year ago! :icon_mrgreen: I need to get some answers to some things before I put them back on again. Like the idle screw. That thing has been up and down and all over the place. Is there a stock setting or measurement? Or possibly a good 'neutral' place to put it? Another question is about all the hoses around the carbs. Do you think it's a good idea to replace those? I have new fuel lines to put on, but never though about those other hoses. Thanks for the help, and hopefully I can get this old girl back running again!
If in any doubt i would replace them......it's a simple job since your already there.
Thanks, I probably will replace those. Anyone know about the idle screw?
It'd be difficult to bench set the idle screw. Get the bike running and warmed up, then adjust the idle to ~1200RPM.
