Title: Cotter Pin Dimension
Post by: RodneyBR on June 19, 2013, 05:20:31 PM
Anyone know the dimension of the cotter pin on the rear axle? I'm thinking is like 3 x 30mm, but not 100% sure. I'd check myself, but it's in bad shape and if I remove it could snap. Thx guys :)

Hi there,

For years, I have dumped rear axle cotter pins and replaced them with hitch pin clips, which can be reused a zillion times.

Here's what it looks like:

You can buy one that will fit at a hardware store, such as True Value, Home Depot etc.

I've had one on every rear axle of every motorcycle I've owned since 1975.

Cheap and easy.

I wouldn't use one on other parts of the bike, but for rear axles and chain adjustments they are perfect.

Good luck,
Trwhouse  :)

I use a hitch pin on both axles.  They work great, and you never need a spare for an emergency road-side fix.
