Title: tail fairing and exhaust questions!
Post by: matttkeller on June 20, 2013, 09:37:12 PM
so im slowly doing a few things to make my 08 naked F model "mine"

and i have a few questions for anyone who can help me out!

first off, the stainless steel cover on the exhaust, its rivetted on? can i take that off? what will i find underneath? i dont care for the shiny stainless steel.
im hoping to poke holes in it or cut out the inner-tube a bit near the end too to make it sound better, but ive seen other posts about that

also, i think i want to remove the rear tail fairing, but what can i do with the signal control box and the stator or whatevers there? should i move them under the seat somehow, or leave them there?
and what about the tail light? can i move that somehow so it doesnt stick out so far behind the seat?

bare with me, im new to all this, i appreciate any advice!

SS Cover is a heat shield. If you dont like it then paint it with HT Paint. I WOULD NOT recommend removing it as its there for a reason AND its ugly underneath anyway. :thumb:

ahah thanks i was wondering that! ill make sure i dont then!

whats HT paint if you dont mind me asking? something that deals with the heat better im assuming? can i get it at like any hardware store?

i might look into a new exhaust anyway, but i dont know of any decently priced (under $350) ones that look good, i just cant stand the stainless steel and chrome stuff ahaha

Correct, by HT he means high temp. You can by a brand "VHT" at most auto parts stores and it is made for headers and exh

Painted the heat shield on my exhaust flat black with high temp grill paint. Worked like a charm and made the scratched up shield look pretty good.

Just posted the same question about wiring under fairings.
Matt, looks like we are on a similar quest.

and Fable, if you come up with anything let me know! ill take a look again tomorrow and see if i can just leave them there without it looking too messy, but i feel like the fender underneath will still look funny
