Hey guys its been a while since I've posted and I'm making progress on the bike. I recently managed to remove the rest from the tank but that caused another problem. Now the bottom of my tank is full of holes -.- I don't know how to weld and I don't have money for a new tank. Anyone know anyways I can seal these holes effectively and for cheap?
Depending on the size of the holes ...... there's not much you can do. A lot of professional welders shy away from gas tanks (for obvious reasons), and any kind of chemical treatment won't be permanent. Honestly, the best solution is to save up for a new tank.
I've POR15 coated it ... you sorta need to get it thickened and smear it on the inside and outside and make yourself a general mess ... but it can work.

A descent 2nd hand would be just as good,so if your going this route check the inside for rust.

Those are some serious holes...I know people who have used jb weld steelstick on gas tanks since it resists gasoline, but only as a VERY TEMPORARY fix.
Personally I wouldnt trust it when it comes to keeping gasoline off a hot engine...

By a dented up tank for like $50 and run with that.. better than a fire or death.
Those holes mean some other portion will perforate soon.. you wont win with this one in my opinion.
Its too late now, but what method did you use to remove the rust? I presume you created these holes yourself with something..
its time for a reset. Stop buying the cheap fixes and just save for a tank. Mow lawns or donate plasma/blood.. that will get you $100 pretty quick.
Dont be foolsih and mess with fire, especially fire between your legs while your driving down the road.

The rust 'holes' have to be also surrounded by weakened metal also! ...

If you want to end up on one of those tv shows about 'I shouldn't have survived' ... Then dodgy repair that tank and go for a ride! ...
If you have to not ride for a while till you source and save for another tank .. Then so be it! ... Don't be a Darwin Award contender!

And I used trick from american restoration which was apple cider vinegar. It got the rust out great. But IDF I created the holes. This bike hasn't even been on the road since 99 and has been parked and stripped for parts from diff owners. Now I'm building it back up
Least that method made clear that there was so many holes! ... Better than going all ghostrider down the freeway!! :thumb:
