Title: Normal Idle.
Post by: Bscanlon64 on June 24, 2013, 06:31:17 PM
I'm sure this is plastered all over the forum, but after like 100 pages of searching thru other people's idle issues I figured I'd just ask... What is normal idle of a warmed bike? And with the choke fully open what's the highest RMP's should go?

Factory idle, I believe, is 1200. I'm not so sure about the choke RPM, but I generally keep mine at 3-4k, then scootch the choke back, then cut the choke and rev to 3-4k for a bit with the throttle. Worked so far.

Okay... Well, I can usually play the choke long enough to get the idle right around 1200. But after a little riding and warming up I feel like it idles around 3k...

Is it a new (to you) bike? Has this just developed? Do you have any upgrades in terms of exhaust, intake, rejet, etc?

Edit: Also, check out this thread. (http://www.gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=41199.msg463211.msg#463211) It may help you isolate your issue.

It is new to me, yes. I rode it once stock but only for like 10 minutes around a parking lot So I'm not too sure what "normal" was. I just added a "slip-on" style muffler that is more a straight pipe than anything. You think I just need to re-jet?

I'm pretty sure that the slip-on is causing a lean condition. These bikes run lean from the factory anyway. You may be able to get away with messing with the needle shims and mixture screws to make it richer.
