Hi everyone,
I'm looking to do some minor upgrades on my 2008 GS500F. I was planning on getting the Yoshimura slip-on and a K&N drop-in. I know next to nothing about messing with carbs though, and I was looking into getting the Dynojet kit just because it feels "safe" to get a pre-configured kit, but I came here first and read through several (though nowhere near all) of the rejetting posts which recommend staying away from the Dynojet kit.
That said, it in some cases it's hard to tell if they're talking about pre or post-2001 models. I also haven't been able to find exactly why they're bad - a lot of people relating 2nd hand stories of people having problems with them, but not much detail to that end.
One thing I don't understand is that that Dynojet kit jet appear to be smaller than the stock jets - however, I have no clue whether that makes sense with the other changes to the carb parts.
Do people still recommend staying away from the Dynojet kit? Should I just go with the recommended 20/62.5/142.5 jets for the upgrades I'm looking at?
DJ makes crap that fits everything ... so they put those funky BS jets ...
On an 01 bike - dude on any year of the GS, we have pretty much nailed down what we jet em to. Mikuni jets are a slam dunk.
I've been working with a DJ in mine - I have been nothing but frustrated with it ...
I finally have it working well enough ... except @ the first 3 mins ... it holds idle beautifully in 30 sec.
No power, will not take off without 5-6k rpm or choke on. WTF ?
It runs great otherwise. I make the stop sign end of the street and turn into the next street ... choke comes off and its great.
Mikuni - use stock needle and mikuni jets - and the setup is nearly idiot proof.
Cool.

Cool thanks for the info. I take it you recommend the 20/62.5/142.5 for a Yoshimura + K&N drop-in on a 2008, or is there another setup you prefer?
This is dumb question maybe, but anyone know why 62.5 and 142.5 were settled on specifically? I mean if I can find 62 and 142 more readily will 0.5 size difference it really make that big a difference?

That is the size that mikuni jets come in. Also You might want to try a 65 in there, depending on where you are located. I am at sea level and found that my mid is lean.

K&N drop in and pipe 135 mains, 65 mids (optional) 20 mids 1 washer and 3 turns.
K&N lunch box and pipe 147.5 mains - else as above.
