Please use the search function sir.
Just ride and be happy. Any money you spend in the name of fuel efficiency alone will far outstrip any savings unless you rode many many thousands of miles.
I won't discourage people from modding their bike or making sure its performing at its potential, but modding with fuel savings only in mind is self defeating.

I get 45 or so ... but I run 2-3-4 gear all the time. To much traffic.
I've modded it to use as much gas as possible without drowning in it.
Cool.
Buddha.
So sorry - I hit modify instead of quote - and being a mod, the thing let me modify your post. Grrrr ... soory.
Buddha often alters people's posts just to mess with them. You are lucky he didn't make it say you like to wear dresses and make people call you an ugly girl.

Seems like a pot and kettle scenario here..... :D
My first tank on my 94 worked out to 59.1 MPG, so I'm selling the 2013 Ninja 300 that averaged 68.5. Riding easy like I do, I'll probably get low to mid 60s maybe even a little higher. Stock sprockets.

I only get 50 mpg, sometimes 55. I blame it on washers under the needle and K&N filter. I once got 60 mpg when it was all stock. But a stock bike takes longer to warm up, which is annoying.
I weigh about 200 lbs all geared up and drive in a lot of heavy traffic and up and down hills all day. I'm happy enough with 50 mpg.
i get ... some kind of mpg i guess ... i fill it up.... i ride.... when it starts to starve out i switch it to res and start looking for somewhere to fill it again....
the range varies according to how hard i twist the throttle... sometimes it hits reserve at 280-300 km .... sometimes at 380-400km ... main thing is to remember to fill up when you can after reserve is on ... :D
I get 60-65 mpg overall on GS500s, no need to alter them. Put in 3.7 gal today for 241 miles, hit reserve about 10 miles before that.

Oh but it is such a sexy bike. I would love to beat the stuffing out of one for just a little while.

the Ninja 300?.... what is it with you and Kwakas?.... you DO have a detached retina!! .... this is proof!! ;) :flipoff:
I'll take my just over 10k miles 94 GS500E over the Ninja 300 any day, expecially when I get $2500 in change. The carbs are cleaning up well enough that I probably won't take them apart this season (seafoam). Get my fork seals done then ride the rest of this year with maybe an oil change.
Don't need EFI, fairings, and other stuff to add to complexity. I do like the 6 speed, electronic ignition, and the ease of access and maintenance.
Right now the carbs cruise fine and smooth, with a slight stumbling if you accelerate from about 3k RPM, but just twist it a little further and she wakes up nicely. pulls real strong from 4k when you hit the second stage in the carb, while still putting along on the first stage and 6th gear does fine for me down to 30 MPH.
I might do the carbs this winter when the weather is bad for a few days. I like to get in there and go over them thoroughly and take my time, or I could just go blast down the Interstate for 100 miles.

i rejetted my carbs to 20/62.5/137.5 and i ride the hell outa my bike, which is probably why i get 33 mpg on average...
