Title: 89 gs500ek gets voltage on the ground
Post by: dfw on July 02, 2013, 09:08:18 AM
Help!
I'm getting voltage where I shouldn't.  When I turn the key I get neutral and oil pressure lights but nothing else electrical works.  This bike was running last fall.  I took the harness out to paint, and now I get 12v at both wires for the sidelight (brown and black/white inside the headlight shell) and other lights.  I don't seem to have a ground, yet the neutral and oil light work.  The starter works if I short the relay.
Diode?  I have two harnesses and both exhibit the same behavior.  thanks.

Dave

Did you reconnect the wire to the frame ground? If you did and you painted the frame, probably bad connections because they are covered in paint.

There is that big fat wire from the battery that connects to the back (or  anywhere) on the motor to make the frame ground. I'd check that first.
