Title: Choke seems either fully on or off
Post by: chsonnu on July 04, 2013, 03:57:50 PM
When gradually moving the choke lever up or down, idle will either be 5K or 1K, and nothing inbetween.  This is a 2001 with 14k miles I just bought.  I'm guessing the choke cable either needs lubing or replacing.  Anybody else experience this before?

Have you moved the lever while off the bike to see how the arm on the carbs reacts? If it is moving smoothly with the choke lever, then you may have an air leak.

Hi Soloratov, the arm appears to move smoothly and freely when I adjust the lever up and down.  I'll try some B12 or Seafoam and if that doesn't work I'll dig into the the air leak.

Just spray some carb cleaner around the boots on both sides and throttle area on the carbs while it's running. RPM's drop, you got an air leak. Can do it without taking anything apart.
