Title: Fuel tank vent
Post by: bryan88 on July 11, 2013, 04:08:22 AM
Just a quick one. How the hell do you route the vent from the bottom of the tank (the one that goes through to the filler cavity)!? I noticed that area filled up when I washed the bike last week so I naturally assumed that I had routed it wrong after I did the valve adjustment. However, looking at it now, it comes out slap bang over the carb so no matter which way you run it it ends up with a kink in it (I'm checking by trying to run a guitar string through it). Is there something I'm missing? I'm tempted to just cut the f*&$#ing hose off and let it drain out onto the carb! Thanks.

I removed my hose as I didn't see the need for it as my other bike was missing its one anyway.

The OEM hose on my '99 is pre-formed with a 90-degree turn right below the fuel tank connection.  Now we know why!  :embarassed:

Ah-ha! That makes sense. It doesn't look that way in the manual though (unless I wasn't looking properly) I might look at doing something similar next time I have the tank off. Thanks.

Devils advocate here..

so you have been on a good ride, its a hot day. You go to fill up and for whatever reason gas rises up over the lip and goes out through the vent onto your hot engine/carb?

Is that an issue?

Remember that when the cap is closed no fuel can leak into that area( or vice versa, I discovered this by opening the cap while the cavity was full of water! ) so I don't think that would be an issue. If however you were filling up and chronically over filled it you would have a problem.

Sorry, that's what you said. I mistook gas to mean fumes.
