The Shorai website recommends:

http://www.shoraipower.com/Products/batteries/LFX14L2-BS12.html (http://www.shoraipower.com/Products/batteries/LFX14L2-BS12.html)

for GS500s of all years.

It seems like I've read somewhere that the other model will work for the GS500 but only just barely.

Only a privileged few have access to the Adidazuki Sanctum that is the Seattle GS500 Bike Cave. The rest of the rabble around here has to find other means of obtaining the same information.

Always ask for the "West Seattle GS500 Club" discount at Aurora. Sometimes you'll get 15% off! You WILL get a chuckle from them. Guaranteed!

Remember to get some free popcorn.

aurora suzuki had to order it and they wanted 159 as well. I mentioned the West Seattle bike cave discount and he said he would give me 10% on a oil filter and some oil but he didnt apply it. I went with amazon already cheapest price and i had some points on my visa card that lowered the price even more. I have been bump starting it. Is bump starting it too often going to degrade/damage the bike in any way?

That's not nice of them not to give the discount when last weekend they had a 20% off all parts sale.
Bump is OK. Be sure your bad battery is properly filled so it does something - as a battery does help the voltage regulator.

Strange. I didn't quality check the link after posting it...

Here's a better, more GS500-specific link. http://shoraipower.com/products?action=vehicle&type=175&make=1675&model=8083&year=8083 (http://shoraipower.com/products?action=vehicle&type=175&make=1675&model=8083&year=8083)
