Title: Tacho tightness
Post by: Jimbob on July 12, 2013, 04:39:36 AM
Afternoon all I noticed yesterady that my tacho was slightly lose as in i can move it up and down a bit i tried tightning the 2 bolts at the bottom but they were already tight. I also noticed that sometimes when i start the bike the needle does not move till i give it a tap. Should it be able to move slightly or should i take it off and tighten it? If so whats the procedure for doing this?
Cheers

Sounds like the rubbers are perished hence the movement and the tachometer cable is at the back.. Just loosen it off and re-tighten it up. Unless its an electric one then you have a problem :)

I have same occasional zero reading until tapped tacho ...  :dunno_black: .... I was working on the theory that 'tap to fix' was an accepted method!!   ;) ... They do it in Top Gun!!  :icon_rolleyes:

... Edit ... And yes I just checked .... Mine is the electronic fed one ... The needle just sticks when it's cold ... Never really bobbles once tapped and bike is warming up or running

Yeah I wasn't to worried about the tapping to be honest I was more worried about it being loose

Remove the two acorn nuts securing the taco and place a couple of extra washers over the studs. Washers need to be large enough to slide over the shank of the stud. Seems to be a common thing but the fix is easy :)
