I just woke up to a wonderful surprise this morning: My bike was stolen! After getting over the initial shock, my neighbor knocks on the door to inform me that my bike is dumped in a near by bike path. I brought it home and assessed the damage; my ignition wiring harness has been cut in an attempt to hotwire it, the right brake lever is busted off, and my faring is broken off. I'm not sure if it's worth fixing at this point of if I should make a rat bike outta it or what.
that sucks hairy dog balls!! :icon_sad:
... brake lever is easy enough to replace ... wiring harness also ... could be someone around here has spares for both...
fairing is harder .. but depends on how much its broken.... can you do a pic or pics of overall damage?
... dont despair ... its all fixable... :thumb:
As Janx stated all is repairable with help from fellow GSers.
That sucks when something is stolen and just wrecked for sh!ts and giggles.
Little fuckers need to get a job and buy their own stuff.
Hope they get their assess kicked soon.
I keep my bike in an enclosed & locked courtyard at night but still put a disk brake lock on it..........me sleep better.
Post your bike pics pls.

did you have any type of security for it?
Well here are the pics of the damage. I took off the fairing so I could get a better look at the cut wires. Here is the broken brake lever: (http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k80/pallybear/brokenbrakelever_zpse49f20ea.jpg) (http://s85.photobucket.com/user/pallybear/media/brokenbrakelever_zpse49f20ea.jpg.html)

No, I don't have any security for it. I keep it in my driveway in the summer because I go to work very early in the morning, and I don't want to wake up my family or my neighbors (duplex). I've never had a problem before, and frankly I didn't think someone would want to steal a low-end 23 year old bike with 45+ miles on it. :dunno_black: I have a neighbor down the road from me who I thought was nuts because he physically chain locks his bike to a thick metal post embedded in concrete in his driveway... Now I know why From now on, I WILL lock it up with a disc brake lock or something. I guess people will steal anything that's not nailed down.
Just fix it with love.

If there is enough room to maneuver in there, I would definitely go the "solder" route. I would insert short lengths of the same-gauge wire and use heat shrink tubing on each end of each connection and then large-diameter heat-shrink tubing over the whole "connection bundle".
Kinda like I did for
[THIS PROJECT (http://bbburma.net/HowTo/TimeVoltageTempGauge_Install/)], but in a more "major" way, obviously.

Thank you Kerry! The pictures in your project will be very useful in getting my bike back up and running :thumb:
That sucks dude. I don't think my GS would really draw the eyes of anyone looking to steal it, but I still kick the truck to the driveway and keep the bike in the garage during the summer. We have scrappers that roam around all week so I could see a couple of dudes lifting it into the back of a pickup at night in a quick second.
Exactly by I had an alarm on my bike.
