Title: Got my Teknic gear...
Post by: gitarman on January 18, 2004, 08:50:56 PM
Well New Enough delivered my Teknic Lightning jacket on Friday and I am very happy with it. I can't believe how great this jacket is for $139 bucks! I was a lil skeptical of ordering a jacket online but New Enough did a good job of helping me out. All in all it was a good experience and I'd recommend this jacket to anyone w/o a gut (I'm 6'3'' and 165). Now I wish there wasn't 6 inches of snow on the ground and my bike wasn't torn apart.

Hey gitarman, glad to hear you like your new gear  :thumb:   There's nothing quite like it.... exciting!!!!  When I got my haul a few weeks back it was all I could do not to get totally geared-up and sleep in the garage, curled up under the bike

Now all you've gotta do is get your ride up to State College so we can hit the roads this spring

I got a Lightning jacket from them about a month ago too.

I love the jacket, and What a deal huh?

Oh, btw - for me it was $139 + about $9.50 shipping to IN - no tax.  So total around $149.

On occasion you'll see Motorcycle-Guy running around my house pretending he's riding.

Cant wait till spring!

Thanks for the info!
Lookin' at the prowler myself - summertime gets closer everyday....

just remember...the prowler is goatskin....

definitely get cowskin if you can...I almost bought the Thunder (prett much identical to the Prowler except its not perforated) then I realized it was goatskin. Isn't as strong and doesn't look as nice (IMO). But for 120 bones its hard to beat in a perforated jacket.

Good thing i mentioned it, sounds like you fellas are down on goat skin.
Thanks once again!

I second that.

And, yeah.  I wear a 38 to 40 in a suit jacket, and had to get a 42 (after getting the 40 and having to send it back), cause they run small.   :dunno:

I am starting to like Teknic gear myself.

I purchased a brand new 2-piece leather racing suit from NewEnough.com via ebay several months back for about $160. Now, I'm thinking about matching it with these:
http://www.newenough.com/teknic_violator_gloves_page.htm

Does anyone have any experience with these gloves? Since I live in Texas I don't know if this is really a good deal or if I'm better off spending another $30-$40 and upgrade to the Teknic Violator Pros or Speedstar gloves somewhere else?

Let me know what yall think.

I ordered those gloves too...as well as the Teknic Defender gloves...oh...and the Held tank bag also...

they retail for a MUCH higher price...so i guess for 39 bux...it's an awesome deal

I'm looking at a Teknic one peice perf leather suit myself...good to hear they run small since 38 is smallest I can find online.

By the way, paul at newenough tells me that the green ones that are doubly on sale (they ARE ugly, but for $219!) also run a bit smaller than same size suit in other colors.

Pantablo, just FYI:
--my 2-piece suit is a size 38. I am 5'2" and was weighing about 135 lbs. (size 30 waist) when it fit. It was not tight or restrictive, but snug (i.e. suck in my stomach a little to zip it up). The pant legs were slightly long, but would be ok on my bike with knees bent. I would think the length would probably be perfect for someone 5'4" or with 28 inch inseam (to the ankle). Hope this helps.

For your pictures I would not have known you were a size 38. :dunno:
Hope this helps.

38 fit too big in the alpinestars stuff. I wear a 46 jacket (US 36), 28 waist pant. Inseam is 30.

The trick to living in Canada is to have a friend south of the border to take delivery of your stuff. Save on shipping; then when next visiting, go light, come home heavy. Don't forget to declare.   :nono:

can we go back to those violator gloves for a sec... I'm REALLY tempted.  MUCH more protection than the JR Atomics I've got now, and the price  :o

anybody got experience with the fit vs. the Teknic size chart?  Is it accurate?

Title: Review
Post by: akh223 on January 25, 2004, 06:57:05 PM
If you guys want a noobs take on the Teknic Violator gloves, here goes.

I got them on Friday from NewEnough, and ordered a Large.
The fit overall was good, and the quality of the leather and stitching was excellent.  The fit of the glove was good, with the thumb being a bit long on me for some reason?  The palms felt good and there was a good bit of pre-curve in the fingers.

That takes care of the good, now on to the bad.

The carbon fiber protector on the top was very uncomfortable for me when I grabbed on to the handlebars.  The carbon fiber protector is sewn on to the top of the glove all the way around and this makes the top of the glove very tight when you hold on to the bars.  It took a good bit of pressure/effort to make a fist with the gloves on, and this made holding on to the bars difficult as well.  Turned my nuckles red in short order and was uncomfortable enough for me to put the gloves on ebay and sell them.

I think the major design flaw was sewing the protector directly on top of the glove.  The new Icon gloves look like they may eliminate this issue by putting the protector on its own flap that just kind of floats above the top of the glove.

I am now looking for a good pair of gloves without all the armor on top.

This is just one noobs review of the gloves, and I hope others have better luck with them, they really are made well and look good too.

Andy

Too bad about the Violator gloves.  What you want is something like the old Violator Pro gloves (which I have) or the Icon TiMax (pricey!).  They have the "floating" knuckle protector on the top, that allows for greater mobility when making a fist.  Perhaps there are other gloves on the market with that sort of feature.

People have kittens when I've got my gloves on... and the TiMax are even scarier with the studs and plates riveted on  8)

update....not really a review....just an update on sizing...

I just got my stuff from newenough:

1.)teknic lightning jacket...size 40
2.)teknic defender boots...size 42
3.)teknic violator gloves...size M
4.)Held Magnetic tank bag

1.) I am a 38 for a dress suit...but the 40 for the jacket fits well...the only problem I have with the jacket is that the arms are TOO LONG!!!!...also, as compared to my old JR speedmaster jacket, the leather is much thinner...but despite the fact...it still looks and feels strong and thick enough...if you're a thin or fit person...this jacket is for you...the JR and Alpinestars are too big even in their smallest size of 40...but for this, you will have to get the arms custom cutted to be the right length...

If you're buying this jacket from newenough...it DOES NOT come with any armour...except for the shoulders...but that doesn't matter...since i'm planning on investing on some hard GP armour...but you should keep that in mind for the cost...oh...also...the zipper is only 8"...and in different direction than the JR pants...(check newenough page for details)...

2.) I'm a size 8.5 Nikes...and the 42 fits PERFECTLY  :thumb: ...although its hard to get it off :dunno: ...the boot feels very sturdy and will withstand a fall pretty well I imagine...It's definitly worth the 85 bucks from newenough...if you need something for touring and not flashy...oh...and waterproof too...very waterproof...I was standing in a bucket of water for 15 min and it didnt' even soak through...It will definitly withstand a downpour...

3.) I used to own a FirstGear Carbon Gloves (M)...and it fits too big...thats why I bought the violators...I went to a shop to try them on...but they only had small...and it fits tight...especially the knuckles part...it's not a 'floating' system....so when you grab the handlebars...it's very tight...that being said...the Medium doens't fit that well either...it's nice and comfortable...but a little on the big side...there's 1 cm of room for my pinky finger...and a bit on others...but overall...I'm very satisfy with the stiching and the quality of the glove as a whole...the fitting should be much better after you work it in....

4.) THE BEST DEAL EVER!!!!   ...for only 32 bux...it's the best bang for your bucks....it has 6 (7?) magnets and seems to me that they will stick pretty well...the one thing that i really like about this bag is that it can expand to double its size...I really like it...as compared to the JR or even the tourmaster...the price is just UNBEATABLE!!!....

well...that's all i gotta say...I'm gonna get my GP armour and possible the AlpineStar back protector as I will be going to the track this summer...that...and also I will be getting the jacket altered...both the sleeves and the zipper....

goodluck with your gears...ride safe...and ALWAYS wear your gears... :thumb:

Quote from: Frost... and Alpinestars are too big even in their smallest size of 40...

that's just the smallest size newenough carries. I have Alpinestars TZ-1 jacket in size 36. Bat pants in size 28. Arms too long is bad-protection in wrong place that way.

btw- the gloves break in and are more comfotable the longer you ride.

yeah, it's a little too long but not a whole lot.....i didn't get any armor excepet the armor inside the jacket bacause i don't need the armor now...

i don't know much about armor but i think you can find a lot of them on ebay....when i decide to get the back protector i'll get the one that covers my whole back and i think everyone else should...
