So I just finished doing some work on my bike was pretty happy took if for the test ride got home wheel it into the garage and dropped it :( now the front brake lever is bent. How hard is it to replace this and does anyone have one they want to sell me for cheap?
Very easy to change and ebay have them very cheap

If you use an oxy torch then yes. Otherwise they usually snap if you try to bend them back :thumb:
I'm not sure maybe? It would be hard to get it to the same as before would you try and bend it with tools or should I be able to bend it by hand?

I bent both my Honda XL185 levers cold to the required shape,but they were not nearly as solid.
Maybe even a Burnzomatic with Map Gas could put enough heat on the job for it to work.....nothing to loose.
BTW....simple tool would be necessary & preferably 2 ppl.....1 to bend 1 to constantly apply heat.
Geez Jimbob!! ... I think the only solution for you lately is to ride .... Never ending ride!! ... You seem to do ok while moving ... But when your bike is stopped or stopping ... Trouble happens!! ... S it's either ride forever or never ride... And never ride is just unconscionable !!

Anyway, forgetting all the criticism for a brief moment, bent levers. Alloy but with a bit of care they can often be gently persuaded back to their original profile. Trick is to be slow and easy with the job and spread it over a day or too. Taking your time allows the stress induced in the metal to disappate and works to avoid that horrible moment when the metal seems to just turn to putty in your hands.
1. Find a box spanner or a piece of piping that fits neatly over the ball and first section of the lever.
2. Lightly wrap the lever in tape so you will not leave marks on the lever.
3. Place box spanner or pipe over the lever and ease the bend damage out a bit. Placing a small block of wood between the lever and the bar is helpful. Just ease back a little bit and then leave it all. have a cup of coffee or a smoke, then a little more pressure.
And that's it. Slow little bites with rests and you can often get the lever pretty well back to where it was before. Any marks on the lever can be rubbed out with fine garnett paper.
Not guaranteed. Sometimes the blooming things just snap, but worth a try.

Normally they just snap so in a way lucky you, try heating it by all means but they are fairly cheap and simple to fit, buy a universal one from whoever you favour.

Noworries, I should not have provoked you any more with the laughter and such. I'll remain silent on any quoted stuff I see , I will keep the ignore on and hope we can just both exist on this forum without being at each other over basic viewpoints. Sorry I tried the 'lofty laughter ' thing with the quoted response by Cods. I kinda figured it would be abrasive and I should not have done it.

I dropped my bike twice in the first 6 monthes or so of owning it. I bent my brake lever back gently...with a hammer...on my garage floor. I guess I got lucky, your results may vary.
Anne dropped her GS within an hour or buying it. Dropped it right in front of the insurance agency.
Yeah dropping a bike always sucks. Luckily there is no major damage. I will try and bend it back but was wondering if anyone on here have a spare? I know there are parts whores ;)
