is this the kind that goes through the front motor mount?
Those go through the front motor mount. I have them on all my GS500's. I wouldn't ride without them. Very nice and good protection in case you drop your bike. Look for pictures of my bikes and you'll see them.

And these dont fit us older bikes huh?
