Hey all, well about a month ago we picked up an 06 GS for my wife. It has a D&D exhaust on it now. She does not like the D&D (I know, I know...we are prob the only people to go back to stock! lol)...Anyway I bought a stock exhaust and hopefully today the gaskets and new bolts etc will come so I can swap the exhausts out.
Ok so here is my question...I'm gonna want to sell the D&D, does anyone know what other models it may fit? I'd like to be able to list those things when I put it on Craig's list etc. If it will only fit the GS model, what years will it fit on? Thanks for any insight you can offer!
My understanding of the exhausts is that they all fit each other. That exhaust from an '06 should fit an '89 for instance. I think maybe some slight change somewhere along the line for the GS in regards to emissions, but nothing that changes the fitment or anything.
Someone else will come along with a definite answer, but I'm almost 100% confident that any given GS500 exhaust will fit any given GS500 across the entire year model range.
IIRC, you're absolutely right, Malfruen. Our bikes have basically remained unchanged since conception. AFAIK, the only differences in the 2004+ models is fairings, an oil cooler, and a few other inconsequential tweaks.
In short, it's just a GS500 exhaust. It should fit any year. If you want to throw years in, just say it came off of a 2006.
Thanks for the insight. It is now officially for sale. :woohoo: Now putting my used EBay stock exhaust find on the bike was an interesting experience to say the least! What should have been a 10 minute job turned into quite an ordeal. It was obviously tweaked or bent is some way shape or form. The pipes going into the head lined up fine and sealed nicely but hanging the rear portion by the foot peg.....!!! IY YI YI! No go! Would not line up for anything! Nothing a drill bit couldn't fix but man what a pain leading up to the decision to drill a new hole for the bolt! Oh well, all is well that ends well....the wife is tickled now because she can hear the purr of her GS's motor and and that's what is important! Again thanks for the info.
No problem. I'm glad it worked out well. One thing I would keep an eye on is the fuel mixture. If the PO did a rejet for the exhaust, which they should have, the bike may be running a bit rich now. Then again, it may be fine. Our bikes are jetted lean from the factory anyway. Just letting you know that if it seems to act a little funky, check the jets. Good luck, and have fun!
