Title: Gear change shaft seal
Post by: Jimbob on July 29, 2013, 09:12:04 PM
Hey guys im changing the seal seen here:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SUZUKI-GS500-GS-500-GEAR-CHANGE-SHAFT-OIL-SEAL-/400522831105?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item5d41056501&_uhb=1

Im just wondering do i need to drain the oil for this or will there only be oil behind here when the engine is running? Cheers

Nope simple case of picking out the old seal with an o ring hook and pushing the new seal in with a seal driver or deep socket that's slightly smaller than the outer dia of the seal. Smear a little bit of high temp grease on the inner lips of the seal before you install and you'll be back on the road quick smart.

Did you have to remove the sprocket to be able to remove the seal?

Got the seal off, do you put a little bit of oil on the new seal?
