Title: Testing the Action Cam
Post by: pertt-UP- on August 06, 2013, 11:15:31 AM

I mounted my new camera (Sony HDR-AS15) to the rear peg and went for a one night camping trip.
For my opinion the video is OK, but there's a horibble noise from vibrations/wind..

How's it go with fogging? I liked mine alot but it fogged so easily even with anti dog strips

The fogging problem has occurred only once so far and that was at the end of this trip. I haven't purchased any strips yet. Another problem has been occasional lack of audio. That's why there are some clips without any sound here.

if you use 32gb cards, and keep the camera closed, it won't fog.
I only use the skeleton (not waterproof) case is for walking or talking. wind noise is neglible with the waterproof.

very nice video man, I really dig the log hops and sun chasing. nice !

Was using 16gb and in its case and it fogged. Picture was good but the hero 3's picture puts the rest to shame

I do like the overall multitude of Hero cam vids ... The picture is better ...

I just wish the damn things looked a little sleeker ... All these vloggers wandering around with little awkward looking boxes stuck on side/top/front of helmet with a mini gantry ... Or sticking out on the bike somewhere.... Looks so 60's family happy snaps!  :icon_rolleyes:

Where's the aero dyna mamics!!  ....  Where's the sleek case that looks fast even at a standstill? ...

.... And this annoys me too ..... Cos normally I'm a function over form guy!

Just something about the sticky outy setups annoys me ... It's not jealousy I don't have one yet! ... I'm ok with waiting ... It all just looks so ..... Jury-rigged ?!  :dunno_black:

I'm probably still gonna get the hero though ... Then .... Yeah! ... Then I can design a sleek and fast looking covering/case for it!! ... Send the design to Hero and they can use it! ... And send me a few bucks! ... No sense in wanting bazillions! ... Satisfaction of purpose will be good!  ;)

So now the big question, (cuz I'm actually in the market for one of these cams) the hero 3 black edition or the latest Ghost Drift HD? They are so closely matched and I can't make up my mind. ---and Janx, the Ghost is one of those super sleek ones lol

Or go the pricier option of the drift ghost

Yeah the drift ghost is my preference .... But ... You still get a slight fisheye view from it ... Plus a few things I've heard about the ghost bug wise..... But the hero 3 black is also commented on as buggy? ...

I dunno ... I've got brag sheets on both ... But company brag sheets don't tell you real world eh!

I seem to see more drift probs than gopro and cause gopro is everywhere ppl seem to be happier with the support they get. Whereas drift is yeah a bit worse cause Hardly anyone stocks them

mmm yup! ... i like the idea of the drift rotatable lens .. which i think gives better orientation for x by y framing?... and they sleeker .. handier big buttons... but ... software upgrade glitches from what i hear!?

I did some youtube comparison before choosing what camera to buy. It was close between the hero3 black and sony. Both can do 1080p/60fps and 720p/120fps, but sony was a lot cheaper.

Sony also seemed to have better stabilization, better in dark and more realistic colors, although Gopro's candy look is very nice also. At the end it was the price that turned me for the Sony.

You hit it on the head there mate that's what I loved about it. I bought it just before the hero 3 came out. And the fact it pissed over gopro 2 at the time. Just that damn fogging. It totally ruined a ride I did and yeah rest is history.

How much did you pay for this camera? I could have used this in my incident earlier. Go pros are over priced IMO.

I paid 258€ for it a month ago, just checked that it has dropped to 218...  :o Still, Hero3 Black costs 369€ here in Finland.
