I've been a lurker on the forums since picking up my bike this past spring. I wasn't able to find too much information about this exhaust and the info I found on here left me a bit skeptical, but I went ahead with the purchase anyways.

Bike: 2006 GS500F
Exhaust: Stock

The first thing I noticed was the significant weight difference between this and stock, it's insanely light by comparison.
The Delkevic page left me a bit confused, saying it fits '89-09 but then saying only '89-02 in the description. I contacted them and was assured that it would fit up to 2009.
Also I had it shipped to Canada, I had them send it via USPS to avoid the crazy UPS fees.

I simply used a hack saw to make cut between the 2 welds in the small section shown below.

Clamp to frame is a bit big, there is some play but I don't find the exhaust moving at all. Maybe I have it clamped wrong? There were zero instructions included.
EDIT: both should be on the outside, will update that this weekend.

Video with new exhaust. It doesn't really do it justice. Now, keep in mind that this is WITHOUT the silencer but on acceleration 3-6k it is very loud. Coasting and it's fine, off the throttle slow down and it burps like a Harley. It's been louder then any of the cruisers I've passed. I'll probably put the silencer in as across the border in Quebec the noise laws are stricter and enforced. It's a very deep sound.

Just a tip(to make it easier for people to read your post): put "[img width=800]" instead of just "[img]" when you post pictures. Personally I appreciate high resolution pics, but on most smaller screens it results in a lot of panning around which makes it harder to look through your post. Just noticed it was your first post and I was given the same advice when I first posted so I thought I'd pass it on.

BTW I like your exhaust. Looks and sounds good. :thumb:

Sounds good man, congrats! Modified exhausts really make a big difference. At least for me.

Thanks cmat I made the update.

Also here is a video with the silencer in. I have yet to take it out on the road yet, but it seems to now have a nice balance between deep sound and loudness. Without the silencer just felt ridiculous around town.

Delkevic mentioned that no re-jet was required. I'm not experiencing any ill effects from a straight swap and no rejet, just did a little 250km trip on it today without issue. If anything I find the bike starts easier (or I'm just crazy). I like the look of the smaller pipe too.

Yoshis are popular and there are tons of bikes with them. It is nice to see some different used from time to time. I admit, I had them on my GS500F and I have a short one on my GSXR now although as soon as I get some spare coins, I'm changing it out

What she said both tabs go on outside of the bracket and then attach to the bike.

im curious... im looking at the tri oval 13" one only because I have heard that this one is insanely loud, what do you think about this one on your bike?

Well without the silencer it is insane. With it it sounded much closer to a friends D&D slip on on his CBR500, loud but still reasonable. It's certainly a deep loud and still 'burps' on deceleration. I wanted something louder so that people could hear me better and I believe this fits the bill at a good price.

Might require bending the tabs slightly but I will give it a shot.

As for not rejetting, I tried it and it ran lean.

I went up to 20 pilot and 132.5 mains with one #4 washer under the needle and she run's beautifully now. That's with a stock air filter.

I'm green to the whole rejetting thing, how did you tell it was running lean? I think the only thing I notice right now is a bit more of a smell than anything, no smoke, it doesn't die on me or anything.

Aren't stock GS500s in need of a rejet to those specs anyway Courtice? According to the wiki:

A conservative Starting Point for upgraded Jetting (Pilots/Mid Main/Main) for a:
Stock GS500 = 20/60/135

What did you put as the mid main jet. I apologize for my "ignorance" on this matter, but that's why we are here, right? :D

I left the mid the same.

I spoke with Buddha who is the carb guru and he said 20/60/132.5 with one shim under the needle.

He said with a slip on or stock pipe you would be good to go.

In my case he was bang on. Bike runs great. I don't even need choke on start up now.

Thank you Courtice. I may get the slip on now and just run it stock til the winter when I plan on tearing the carbs apart anyway and do the rejet then.

Just ordered the ss70 for my 1990 gs, I know i'm late to this post but did anyone have problems with inspections or police after installing???

I live on the border of Quebec and Ontario. Quebec recently has been very strict on noisy bikes (lots of straight pipe Harley's there) so I left the silencer in and never had any issues. I think I'm going to take the silencer out though next season and test my luck. I tested with an iPhone app and it never registered above 100db which is the law here.

I'm pretty fond of the SS70.  I ran one on my GT650R and loved the sound.

This muffler sounds fantastic with any twin.  Sucks ass with the stouter 4's, in my opinion.  Gave it a try on my GSXR1000 and it was all rasp and static.

how difficult was it to use the hacksaw to cut the pipe? I don't want to buy a 100 dollar electric saw just to use once in my life.

I was able to cut it in about 5-10min without any issues. It cut easily, no need for an electric saw just get a good metal blade.

I'm also  intending to pain the stainless steel section to match the black of the stock exhaust (i have the E model)

Just left it on the stand, you can see where I cut in the first image.
