Title: Where does this go?
Post by: spray____ on August 24, 2013, 08:45:27 PM
Hey guys,

Looking at my rear brake line, I noticed #22 on the below diagram hanging around the brake line, but not attached to anything. Played around with it for a few minutes, but couldn't find anywhere obvious that it's supposed to go. Anyone know?

Circle bit around the brake line ... Bent paper clip bit goes under the nut that holds front end of the square smaller tube thing above the swing arm... It's a nut with a collar on the inner end

Edit ... Err looked manual ... The front bolt/nut of the 'brake torque arm ... Is the square smaller tube' .. The smaller bit of the widget goes onto the bolt first and then the collared nut tightens down on it all ...  :thumb:

Is that part number on the diagram, or is it something else? Trying to follow along with what you said, but it's hard to visualize. Might be easier when it's in front of me, but nothing seemed obvious when I last looked. Part # on diagram would help greatly

That clip is a guide for the brake line.
It goes on the forward bolt of the brake torque arm.
It guides the brake line after it makes that loop off of the rear master cylinder, guiding it toward that steel clip on the rear swing arm.
To put it back on, loosen the front bolt of the brake torque arm and slip the curly part under the hear of the bolt with the loop sitcking up to hold the brake line up.

Let me know if you need a picture.

Think I've got it. If I'm correct it goes between #16 & #19 (the forward/left most on the diagram)

It must have come off when I removed my rear wheel a few weeks back. I don't remember loosening that nut, but either I did and don't remember or it's been off since I got the bike and I never noticed.

More recently than that I adjusted the rear brake pedal and rear brake light switch. I was assuming it came from somewhere in there, so it was the only place I was looking. And of course now that I re-read your posts, their meaning is crystal clear.

Thanks for the help guys.
