Title: Leaking front fork seal
Post by: Alexandrelejoly on August 31, 2013, 05:41:01 PM
Hey guys, my front left fork is leaking oil and I was wondering if it was an easy fix and how to fix it or about how much a shop would generally charge for it

Easy fix if you have a few tools.

I did mine after watching that utube video. Dealership was charging me 2 hours with the forks off the bike. Got the piece of PCV from Lowes (2 foot) already cut to size. It was fairly easy if you just take your time and pay close attention. The 8 MM allen extended socket I also got from Lowes, worked fine with an ancient 1/2 drive electric impact wrench (with 3/8 adaptor). I could probably do the next set in leas than two hours from on the bike to on the bike and I'm old with a bad back. You need an impact to get that bolt loose.

regards
Mech

It's insane what shops charge for a really simple job. It's all labor cost anyway. My buddy has an old Yamaha, shop wanted $280! We did it together in 45 minutes....yeah, never pay if you don't have to.

Yeah, I've changed them on my GSXR and it did the take long. I had to make a few custom tools ($20-25) versus buying proprietary tools and bought the fork oil locally.
