I notice what looks like a 916 fairing upper on Bob Broussard's bike in the WOF. Has anyone tried a full 916 fairing on the GS? I've been looking at possible fairings for my bike for a long time & I just can't find anything that looks anywhere near as good as a 916, so I'm thinking about giving it a try, but only if I wouldn't have to drastically rework the thing in order to make it fit.
Any input folks??
Man if you have a 916 Fairing...SELL IT. Ducati parts bring good money....
(There's a tank for 330$ and climbing on Ebay right now).
The body parts bring big money too....
I'd find a sport bike fairing to experiment with..... (Hey I have a thing for Ducati's....)
The fairing is a race upper for a 916 from sharkskinz. I trimmed the lower ears towards the back. Made up some aluminum brackets and that's it.
I think it only cost around $200.00. Plus the windscreen price.
Don't get the AMA bodywork. That has side panels that are attached and go down each side half way. The lower comes up and connects in the middle.
Unless you WANT a full fairing. I have the AMA bodywork for my 996.
It can be made to fit fairly easily. I've checked it out, but I prefer less bodywork myself.
I'm going to get an upper for the Honda 600rr. Lockhart Phillips has a racer special with Hotbodies until January 31. If you are a team privateer member you can get some good discounts. The 600rr upper will cost $150.
To get setup with team privateer call 1-800-221-7291
The flyer I got says to use option 4 when ordering.
Full sets are 450.00
race uppers 150.00
race lowers 131.25
race tails 112.50
front fender 56.25
The Ducati upper part # is 224-9001

This is exactly the reason I've started to think seriously about this. I got the flyer a couple days ago & decided if I was gonna do it now is the time. I've been a Team Privateer member for about 5 years now (see the 2000 or 2001 catalogs for pics of me!).
I love the 916 styling, but would never use factory plastic on my GS, it would have to be race fiberglass parts. & I DO want a full fairing. I really like the look of fully faired bikes (Blasphemy!! :o ) & the 916 is the best. I just want to know if the 916 fairing has any chance of fitting the GS before I give up my hard earned coin. So, Bob, you're saying the 916 full fairing can be made to fit the GS without too much pain??
The last time I test fit the bodywork, it looked like I needed to trim the edge of the fairing that fits against the frame. I would weld tabs on the frame and mount it using the quick release DZUs like the Ducati has. The lower mounts to each side of the upper with more DZUs (3 each side). I'm sure a little trimming for the exhaust would make it fit.
Now keep in mind this is for the AMA legal bodywork from Sharkskinz.
The nose piece has sides that come down half way and the lower comes up and connects in the middle. This has the legal belly pan.
Originally, the 916 has the nose piece and 2 side panels that connect higher up and together at the bottom. You won't have a legal belly pan this way.
I don't know what style Hotbodies is offering. :dunno:
You should buy mine.

I want to!! I even have a couple left over GSX-R600 windscreens I planned to use. I'm just concerned I'll be old(er) & grey(er) by the time you get the full set (with lower) finished!!! :? I need to come up with a fairing to put on the bike before I'm confined to wheelchair & depending on the nursing home personnel to change my diaper!
If you think you'll have the upper & lower available by spring & the cost is reasonable (remember LP is only asking 281.25 for the upper & lower) I'm in!!

Hope this doen't sound too harsh... :) :) :)
Hopefully it'll be taken in the spirit of jest that was intended :)
Seriously though, I am interested in your fairing, James, I think it looks really sharp, it's just that the LP deal is pretty incredible. Is there any chance you'll be able to match them?
