Title: 2000 GS500 I picked up for $400!
Post by: grossjon on September 04, 2013, 01:22:50 PM
So I picked this bike up off Craigslist for $400! Not bad shape at all. Currently, the bike is in dire need of a paint job, a new gas tank, and a new clutch cover from what I can tell. The bike came with no keys, so I'm going to try and have some ordered. 22600 miles. The tank came rusted out with leaks and busted open from someone stealing gas. The previous owner even gave me a second tank, also rusted out, but with no leaks. So far, I've taken off the plastics, tank, and rear handle for painting. I've sanded them all down and painted everything black, including the tank. I've performed electrolysis on the tank to remove the rust - worked beautifully! Now I'm ready to apply the Red Kote tank sealer. I should have a key ordered in a couple of days. Then, I'll need to add rear turn signals, mirrors, a new right turn signal, and I should be good to go!

If you do most of that yourself, you effectively have a $600 GS. That's nuts lol.
