Title: Repairing fairings
Post by: alexanderjennings on September 04, 2013, 03:58:19 PM
Hey all!
Dropped the bike pulling up to the driveway last night 😞
Cracked the fairings
Now it's time for the repair jobs!

I looked into getting it professionally done in brisbane but plastic weld+paint+stickersgot quoted at $800+ for the 3or4 cracks.

Best way to do it at home? I could cover some of the cracks with the OEM sticker set which is a plus.

Here is a picture of the damage!

give em time bro! ..  :thumb:

couple years ago i had cracks in mine from PO .. wasnt sure how to repair ... so took them to a bike panel dude... 4 cracks later and paint .. $1200 roughly!!...

search around on here for plasti-weld ,plastic welding, fairing welds etc ... there is some good info in more than a couple threads on it..  :thumb:

I guess you could use bondo or epoxy, then sand it down, prime it, and slap some new stickers on it. If you want to, you could also add some steel mesh behind the cracks for extra support.

Edit: Or you could do what Janx said lol.

I paid about 300 for my plastic weld kit from snap-on, so I'm sure it can be had for cheaper elsewhere.
If you have a lot of faired bikes, or plan on dropping it a lot (track bike per-say) then it is a must have.
