im just dipping my toes for the first time into the VLog arena .. so any tips and tricks from the old hands will be great!

please enlighten us, what exactly is a VLOG and how does it work
:dunno_black: .. lol.. im learning... Video Log... you know .. those vids that riders post on YT etc ... talking away about whatever while the scenery rolls past....
up till now for me it worked like this... open YT window... type search term .. hit enter... choose video... ;)
now i have all these other confusing options!! :thumb:
Slips.. when you see this... whats the go with uploading widescreen or 4:3? ... ive edited in 16:9 and YT keeps grumbling at me about it
does anyone really use 4:3 anymore?
I upload in native 1080p or 720p size settings. Oh and make them wmv or mp4 yt seems to like those and not mess with the picture too much
yeah ... i let the WMM do it and save whatever.. then upload... its working so far .. just about to put the dusk one for upload
when i save it computer .. saving in "for computer" setting... about 40mb per min .. 5.6 bitrate .. the option above that is like 173mb per min of footage!!! im not so worried about YT hosting it... but the upload time ... thats ridiculous!
I have velcomed you in the other forum now too. So how my subs so far? My tips for new vloggers like me is keep the vids short, no long pauses, get rid of as much wind noise as possible no one likes 10+ min of wind noise, keep the umms ands and arrrrs to a minimum. And enjoy it if you liked making it then it will show. Kinda like smiling when talking to someone on the phone. Good content takes time and I'm by no means an expert on that so yeah if you can watch it yourself a few times chances are others will too.

Small piece of advice. Dont try and be something you are not. Talk if you want or dont talk. If you are doing a bike video no-one wants to hear your chit about what you ate for dinner or how the road is bumpy. They want to hear how the bike handles the bumps and how you handle the bike. Only the real good vloggers can talk chit and keep you interested eg:The Barron for example.
I personally like videos that show more of the riding and less talky chit BUT as said The Barron is an exception to that cause hes funny as fukk. P187 is another good one to learn from.

went for mainly a microphone... got that ... got a drift hard carrycase .. a handlebar mount .. a shoulder mount/harness .. :D :icon_rolleyes: .. seriously wanted the 'on the go power kit' they had .. but lacked another $199 !!! :icon_sad:
then went to another store and got a Go Pro 'spare parts grab bag' for $30 ... cos with looking at the variety of drift mounts available locally... and not wanting to wait right now ... i reckon with a slight mod on the pivot points .. i can expand my potential mounting points by 4 .. plus be able to 'fabricate' a viable helmet mount for the side of my nolan n102 ... since the N104 is about $450 and i cant do that yet.. :sad:
so im gonna fiddle with some bits on the desk ... maybe drag out a chisel and small hammer... and get creative!! :thumb:

just finished 'modifying' my go pro mount kit to accept Drift camera base ... got the helmet sticky pad on ... bike not with me today so ill finalise the left side fairing? mount position later ...
tools used... screwdriver/chisel .. bastard file .. sandpaper.... ingenuity!!!
took pix .. just editing them for size... will load to bucket or gs500 .. then link them to here and motovlog...
didnt video ... seemed a tad gauche working with rough tools (no dremel or fancy crap :dunno_black: ) and video it... so pix was the go... i'll add in text comments and desc as i put them up! :D

My take on Vlogging is this...
If I wouldn't be bothered listening to your speaking if it was just you and a mic and nothing else, I am not gonna be bothered just cause you're doing it while on a motorcycle.
Your dislike of the latest model police vehicle in favor of the previous model; a thumbs up or down over a movie; your opinion on litterbugs, etc., are all dull and boring and showing riding footage doesn't change that. Like Cods said, it takes great skill to chitchat and still retain listeners.
GoPro's tend to straighten out roads. So be harsh with editing out long straight bits. Sitting watching a bike on a straight road for a minute is boring - unless - there is some dang terrific scenery on the sides. So clip out the straights and fade the bends together. Nice :thumb:
Whatever you upload, YT will reduce it. So choose higher/larger rendered file over smaller one.
The use of music is a personal choice. Some like it, some don't. Do what you want.
And finally and most importantly, endeavor to make the kinds of videos you would like to watch.
I hear ya ... Agree with most of it.... Sometimes .... A lot of times really .. With vlogs .. I'll watch the scenery with no sound ... Look around the scenery like I would while driving! ..

Another thing if you want to monetize your videos search YouTube for royalty free music and use that. If you use mainstream stuff YouTube will send you a copyright notice. Surprisingly there is a fair bit of decent royalty free music out there

I'm driving and thinking like I always do ... But she said "far out, you on the bike and you don't shut up! , you never talk that much in the car!" ....I said... Yeah I will for sure. It's hard to respond to people whilst in control of a vehicle too.. I've always found it near impossible to maintain a proper conversation whilst driving.
Oh I can talk up a storm! .. But usually on the longer out of city stretches ... Taking trucks or the family through the city nowadays I'm on the lookout for all the drivers that really should have taken the bus! :icon_rolleyes:
I noticed wollongong city has some pretty strange roads and drivers. Always gotta be on the lookout.

Yeah we have international students in the mix too ... Probably not as many as Sydney .. But less overall traffic so they 'stick out more' .. Roads aren't too bad once you get it into the head that the Gong is a long and narrow coastal area hemmed in by the dividing range ..
Talking of roads ... Canberra has to be my fav city to drive ... Good network of planned roads and interchanges..
Anyway ... There's so many little touristy local loops and places to explore ride... I might end up being like a tourism Vlog brochure eh! :icon_lol:
Canberra's roads are sweet as, no traffic lights! And it's a good thing You watch out in Sydney, the place is riddled with people who shouldn't be on the road. Can't tell You how many times I've nearly been killed in my car and on my bike by people not looking merging or indicating or pulling out etc. etc.

Depends on the program janx. Most of your more entry level programs you have to 'keyframe' stuff like that out which is time consuming trust me. As far as I know WMM doesn't have keyframes. My program pinnacle can keyframe. What it is is basically you insert an object to blank out or blur what you want to obscure then you advance through the video and adjust its position to keep it on target. So like I said takes alot of time in some cases. Now your more advanced programs like hitfilm, Vegas, motion 5 and a few other have something called motion tracking. What that does is you set a target that is visible in the entire shot and you set your tracker to track a specific point for however long it may be. The program tracks that and that basically keyframes it for you. You then insert your object to blur it and pair or attach it to the tracking you did. That's it in a nutshell. Kinda lol

so i click on the widget for the thingummy to encapsulate and follow the chosen point and then assign a function to be active during the selected timeframe...

if recording in hi def, aka 1080 or 720 process as such. otherwise WMM, and YT both bork the video more times than not
Yep ... I've done a few in full HD save so far .. The ones where I really want to show detail into distance ... But mainly done in the less meg hungry mode ... No big dramas with YT farkling anything yet ...
Still Getting used to it all though and sorting out how I edit down from orig footage ...I currently trash about 50% on first pass .. Then another 20% or so for overall time of vid ... Then fine tune the cuts starts and ends and swaps ...
Don't bother saving the trashed stuff .. If I didn't like it to start with its unlikely ill use it later .. Also collecting some short out-takes and brainfarts/oopses for a intro montage at some point :D

my 2013 tour de cure vid i posted was 21 minutes of 720p rendering hell. but it turned out i guess. Errrm video was 21 minutes in length. took a few hours to render and upload. i made one edit. on the elevator ride. to get rid of my friend. Chief broken wind. lol :oops:

Yeah slips they are ... To 3m they say ... I've had it out in the fog already and no drama ... But that's with the full seal rear case on ...with the rear case that lets me use the mic I doubt it..
Gotta get something else to record some audio for the sealed situ ...
Anyway ... I want the waterproof case ... Yeah for going snorkelling or something this summer maybe ... But on the bike ... I have a few camera angles in mind that I want some additional 'armor' for .... S the camera doesn't cop a flogging from any debris..
And in case I happen to get caught out in ... Or intentionally do a Vlog in.... Real badass heavy rain!, ...

Wellllll ... I dunno .... Freedom of speech and all that .... But enough complaints from wowsers can certainly get your video suspended temporarorily .. Racial vilification is also similarly a risky idea ... And personalised/virulent language attacks are also apparently a good way to get focussed on ....
Plus advertisers do not like being associated with 'users that have a poor public image' ... So it could affect the monetizing aspect too.....
I best be finding a beep button if I end up wanting to point out a particular bad driver that risks my safety ... All of the above may apply! ;)
