Title: PAIR System
Post by: JAS6377 on September 09, 2013, 07:53:23 PM
I know this has been 205'd multiple times, but I have no clue where to start, to be completely honest. I know that the PAIR system is basically an emissions control system. And I've heard that removing it can help reduce after firing with performance exhausts.

So, where exactly is this system located on the bike?

Under tank, in front and above engine... http://www.mrcycles.com/oemparts/a/suz/506b3273f870022ba8af9a87/2nd-air (http://www.mrcycles.com/oemparts/a/suz/506b3273f870022ba8af9a87/2nd-air)

All I have is a valve cover breather hose last I checked... I'll have to take a closer look tomorrow.

I think PAIR showed up in 04? I may be wrong also  :dunno_black:

Well, I have a 2004F lol. I'm sure I'll find it. I just want to make sure I don't take anything apart that I shouldn't. It's quite possible the PO got rid of it before he sold it to me.

Well, this is embarrassing... I found a diagram of the PAIR house routing, and saw that it routes directly into the exhaust pipes. My stock exhaust was PAIR free, and I don't have any funky doohickies with extra hoses... Whoops. Perhaps it was only for the CA models.

False alarm.

The PAIR system does not go into the exhaust system. There are connections to the head next to the exhaust headers. You may have oval plates there blocking it off.

Hm. I'll have to take another look, then.

By the way adidas, I saw your video on tightening the magnet/starter on YouTube yesterday. I wish I lived in Seattle. I'd visit that bike cave every other day.

I took another look. I have the oval-shaped things on there, but they don't have any screw holes in them.

Then it appears you never had a PAIR system. Those oval things are on heads without it. On heads with the PAIR, they have been drilled through and studs inserted to bolt it on.

Well, that's fun. One less thing to worry about, I guess lol.

It's from another forum lol. A guy got a ticket on a bike for going 205, and the forum exploded with threads about it. It's come to mean redundant in that neck o' the woods.

phew !!... ok got it....

205 and got caught?... im assuming MPH ... which is...  :icon_eek: 330 .. ok... thats up there! ... and i know at that kinda speed all sorts of things and events can happen .... i'd be thinking initially though... 205mph ... well i aint stopping just cos the nice man with the flashing lights says so... outrun and disappear!! ..

.. course in these days of mobile video in squad cars, traffic cameras, aerial pursuit etc .. it would be real hard to just fade away...

i dont condone that kind of speed on the road... and dont intend to try it out on the road (...again  :icon_rolleyes: ) .. but given a machine capable and a drag or circuit track ... then hell yeah!!  :icon_twisted:

I don't even think a squad car dash cam could catch a plate moving that fast. Perhaps aerial. In any event, I don't know how he had the cojones to go that fast. Triple digits are just plain scary. Fun, at times, but scary.

hmmm .. not to brag .. cos it was stupid and i was younger and stupid... now im just older...  :icon_rolleyes:

unlicensed .. bro in laws TL100R .. sposed to just 'go around the block' .. maybe 500m of quiet back street ...

.. went 'Around the Block' .. about 4.5kms of streets including a main connecting road... nice long 1.5km straight ..cracked it open and went up through the gears... 200k was quick ... then didnt feel that much different really till i saw an intersection 400m ahead getting close real quick... 270k ish... on the dial when i glanced down...  :icon_eek: .. wups.. on the brakes firmly and steady! ...

mate i have spoke to has said when he does track days .. the 200k-270 ish doesnt feel too much different... above 300 on a few rare occasions (and only briefly) .. he said then you start to 'feel' it more..  :dunno_black: .. i havent done that kinda speed since.. not that scared of it... dont have access to a machine that will do it..  :icon_rolleyes:

dunno about a squad car dash cam either.. i know for certain the speed cameras will though!.. lots of online vids 'Top Gear' and others tested that theory ... the coppers do use pretty good gear though!... if it has to stand up in a court then they wont be using 'potato cam'  8)

Man, 200kmh is scary in a car let alone 270kmh on two wheels!

yeah but nah.... on the bike i was young & dumb enough at the time to not consider it...  :dunno_black:

been in one of my older cars at 215 which was again dumb but felt quicker cos i had more time and comfort to be watching the landscape slip by .. and a mates 351 powered XD falcon at 240 .. with him driving it felt MUCH faster :icon_eek:

.. i think its the perception and your mood at the time... if you focus on just what you are doing with the vehicle it seems not to 'happen' so much ... if you start to think about the actual speed and the consequences then it can get worrysome!   :icon_rolleyes: :icon_confused:
