I know we have alot of engineers out there following the Mars Rover mission....
this is not good :( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3855168/
If they wanted reliable, they shoulda built the rover out of an old GS :P
This is why you send PEOPLE.... IMHO
I'm telling you, it's those Martians. They don't want us humans messing with their planet. :o
Seriously though, can't we have a Mars mission that will go without a hitch?
Then Pablo will be yelling "chop that fender off" and running behind it....
Cool.
Srinath.
Great... Just what they need, with Opportunity arriving late Saturday night. Hopefully they can get it worked out. I still have my fingers crossed.
Amen to sending people BTW, sign me up, with 1/3 gravity you know how much air you could get on a dirt bike? :)
It's still early, guys. The trick is for the backup computer to take the robotic arm and hit "Control, Alt, and Delete" to get the thing to reboot.
With all the trouble that recent Mars missions have encountered, it makes the Voyager mission from the '70s all the more amazing. It sent us spectacularly broadcast images back to Earth from Neptune! I hope some little green man finds that thing and learns how to play the attached record.
Voyager was, and still is, a great mission. I think Voyager 2 is supposed to reach the heliopause in a decade or so... the first man-made object in true interstellar space... awesome.
But lets give these current NASA boys their due... Voyager never had to to bounce 27 times on the surface of any of the planets it visited 8) It still blows my mind that they can even hit that teeeeeeny little planet some 90 million miles away.
I think Global Surveyor passes over the site in a few minutes... maybe they'll get lucky
the tin foil hat crowd must be having a field day over this one. Everything we send to Mars sudenly fails. Thise damn martians
