In the past I had trouble changing my oil filter, the bolts that hold the cover always break. Is there a torque value or advise when tighten them?
1/4 past hand tight has always worked for me. Just make sure you seat the filter cover correctly. I mucked up seating it one time resulting in the o-ring being cut in half and the bike sprayed oil EVERYWHERE. It was a mess.
thats not bad yeah just 1/4 turn more. i have a stud that is stripping from the last owner :2guns:
8 ft/lbs would be fine.If u don't have a torque wrench use only MODERATE pressure cos their a small diameter stud/bolt & not meant for force. They seal easily with the rubber gasket anyway.
There's an oil change video in the tutorial thread that deals with this very issue
I've had this issue as well, one the the filter cover bolt holes was stripped, so I re-tapped it to a 1/4 inch and that solved the problem. Just make sure the seal is seated good, keep pressure on the filter cover with your hand while you finger tighten the bolts until they seat. Then tighten them just a bit until they're snug, I tightened them in sequence but that's because I was being very cautious.
