Post by: Kerry on January 22, 2004, 12:41:39 PM
Just for kicks....

Total Users:  1,365
Total Posts: 46,421

Top ___ users account for __% of total posts
    1                     8
    2                    15
    4                    20
   10                    32
   15                    40
   24                    50

___ users have __ posts (or less)
944            10
799             5
454             1
236             0

Does anyone know if this is a typical distribution for this type of message board?

John?

In case the numbers don't mean anything, try this screen shot.
You can get the latest by going to the Memberlist link (at the top of this page) and setting the options to Total Posts and Descending.

I don't know...should I be proud to be in the top 10 - or embarrassed?
(Not that the company is anything to complain about.  )

EDIT: Changed link from sisna.com to bbburma.net

hmm not familar with this one.

I'min grad school for Epi so I have done lots of stuff with SPSS, SAS and some Stata.  Stat packages can be fun and aggravating.

Power Builder? interestin! I just took a basic course of it...

The statistics shows that many people comes by just to see what's happening and then go away, or stay as simple spectators, I used to read a lot here before I post...

Since statistics treat individuals anonymously, the top ten chart would only work to assign the trophy, but a frequencies table on # of posts would give a graphic of the members behaviour...

I didn't mean to give the wrong impression.  I didn't use any kind of statistical program for the membership data - I cranked out the numbers by hand.

I just mentioned the training course on PowerBuilder (an application development environment) to let folks know why I was bored enough to do such a thing by hand.... :?

With his new job Pablo's time here has greatly diminished... now is the time to attack...
Unfortunately my home modem is out, and work was busy making me unable to capitalise...
Cool.
Srinath.

Hey Srinath, how come no Location in your profile?  We have the right to know where that 7% of the total posts is coming from!  ;)

And don't say "I move too often" - it's been a while since the last one.

Looking at all those member profile summaries made me think....

Did I miss an invitation or something?  Monday the 19th was the 1-year mark for the new GStwin.com.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I'm not exactly bored but for some reason this interested me.

From the KatanaPlanet.com forum:

#of users --- %of posts
1 ---------------  6
2 -------------- 12
4 ---------------  22
10 -------------  46
15 --------------  61

Total users 2,511
no. of posts 169,578

It makes sense that the top 10 users in an older forum with more posts would gain a greater percentage of the posts. Over time the gap would widen if they continue to be the most prolific posterers.

That is a very typical distribution.  20% are responsible for 80% of posts.
