Title: Manx Norton style wideline Fuel Tank
Post by: Ghost on September 20, 2013, 06:37:18 AM
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone might know if there is such a thing as a Manx Norton style wideline Fuel Tank to fit the GS 500 ? I really like the style but have no idea where I could get one to fit my bike. Or does anyone know how much it would cost to have one made? This  is for everyday road use and not racing( I'm too old for that).
Thanks for any help.
Best regards.

that looks awesome!
if the seat was parallel to the ground it would be  :kiss3:

clip-ons and rear-sets and low-set cone muffler required

If I can get the tank then the rest will follow in time and money

In that pic it looks like the bike is having a bit of an identity crisis.  :D  I love the potential.  I think it would have to but a custom job thought. With the flat bottom style conflicting Worg the angled frame you might end up with "crap pockets"if the tank overhangs the frame.

Perimeter frame = cant have the tank over the frame like that.
Besides you'd clobber it with the forks.
Cool.

I figured that with the indents on the tank shown, handle bars would be accounted for.

About the overhang, what if the tank mounted traditionally but had faux sheet metal extensions to make it appear the tank was lower than it was?

To me even in that pic it obviously looks fake ... and I'll bet that pit of sheet metal will make a racket. My horn bracket makes a racket, like you've hit the horn and its making 1/3rd the power of the horn.

Cool.

Ghost, look at www.RocCityCafe.com - the owner there will make you a custom tank from aluminum for a price.

Touchy subject and don't mean to be unkind to other people's hard work, BUT... I did hire him to make an aluminum café style front fender for a project bike. I then had to buy a fiberglass one from Poly 26 and had it cut and sanded. The fiberglass fender is going on the bike, the aluminum is not.

Thanks to everyone for their input, I guess I will have to come up with another plan as I can't get a custom tank made in Brazil and to have it sent from the USA would cost a fortune not to mention the 110% import tax. Thanks anyway, much appreciated.

That's the larger Manx Norton tank. There's a similar shaped, but smaller Manx tank which would look ooooooooh so much more sexy!
