We make our own bread. This recipe really blew us away. Soft, moist and tasty. Best "white bread" for general purpose use.
1/3 cup dry potato flakes (add enough water to create mashed potato)
1 egg
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp yeast
1/4 cup water (for bread machine may need to add up to 2 tbsp)
2 1/2 cups bread flour (I use 1.5 cups bread flour, 1 cup all purpose -you can probably get away with just using all purpose but I have not tried it)
By hand: Add water over the 1/4 cup to make the dough soft. It will be more sticky than regular bread dough due to the potato so greasing your hands might help.
Knead. Turn out into greased bowl. Let rise for 90 - 120 minutes. Beat down and form loaves or rolls, cook on greased baking sheet.
Bake at 375, for convection bake at 350. Takes approx 30 - 40 min for bread loaves, 12-15 minutes for hamburger buns/rolls.
Bread machine note: Just run a dough setting. This will handle the first rising. turn out, beat down, form loaves or rolls.
Aye. i eat potato bread whenever i can swing it. = awesomeness. btw whenever you eat bread, and its awesome. AND it says high fiber. do NOT overdo it :nono: :icon_lol:
I spent about a month trying to perfect pretzel bread. I love soft pretzels. It's tough to get the nice dark brown though.
I believe it.
We Australians make our own bread from ground up Vegemite and rusted bolts. Keeps the roughage in our diets. It can also attract drop bears. And have metho poured through it to purify it enough for drinking with your favorite mixer.
SOOOOO thats what drop bears are. here in the us we call em something else
I dare you to try making it. Real men know how to operate in the kitchen as well as the bedroom...

He he ... I am a lousy cook ... but I'd make a few things that even my wife cant match ... my son's favorite baked potato being one of em.
Cool.
Buddha.
I do make a mean indian oxymoron ( curried beef, potatoes, veggies etc)
No one beats my lamb roast. I also make damper.
always labelled it "indian oxymoron" cause most of the time you wont find an indian eating beef. but curry being predominately an indian spice. theres an indian grill i want to get tho. mainly used for making unleavened bread. VERY hot inside. i do enjoy making GOOD bread. a moist white, a moist wheat, rye, and even pumpernickel. never leave a recipe stock tho. like our gs, these recipes can be modded :)
At first I thought John was referring to money.
On a side note to SlipperyMongoose, my new tank bag was delivered yesterday all the way from Australia ;)

the eggs look a little like this .. these are insect eggs .. the drop bear ones are obviously larger... but still slightly smaller than the tip of your little finger kinda thing... and usually a black/brown mottled design ... which disappears better in tree bark
