Hi!
I've got some serious problems with my -94 gs500e.
This is my story.
It had been standing around for three years without running, and it had not been emptied, so when I got it the first thing I did was take all the fuel out and took the carbs apart and cleaned them out properly.
The bike ran fine for a week or two, I didn't go for any long runs, just in to work which is 12km.
Then one day it started to rev really high (4000rpm) at the red lights, but it still ran fine.
I read here on the forum that it could be air getting in between the carbs and the manifolds. so I went and bought some heat resistant silicone. that seemed like it worked. and everything was fine for a while, but then one day it wouldn't start at all.
I thought it might be something wrong with the carbs again. So I took the bike apart again, cleaned the carbs once more and made sure I'd set everything up right.
I did three turns out on the air mixture screw.
The needle is on the third clip position and I'm running with brand new main and pilot jets and new sparkplugs.
I checked the float position, that the vacuum hoses weren't damaged, but still the bike is running far too rich.
I tried running it in to work yesterday, and in the 12km's to work it drank 3 liters of petrol. It ran like crap on low revs and almost didn't have an idle. (almost didn't make it home)
I've almost given up.
What could be causing it to get so much petrol?
Did the changing of the o-rings make the vacuum to good?
The float bowl levels are good (checked with piece of transparent hose), should I have the bike running when checking this?
I hope some kind soul out there can shed some light on my problem!
Cheers

You may be leaking fuel into the airbox. You check that ?
Otherwise, what jets you running.
Cool.
Buddha.
I'm running these jets (they where according to the spec I found online for the gs500 -94 I hope they are correct :icon_rolleyes:

It's not leaking gas into the airbox what I know of, it hasn't been dripping from the run off hose.

You running 115 / 40 - no way you're rich with that ...
You have stock needles ? The thing is 125 is what we need to run ti be even close to right on this bike.
Oh wait a sec ... you may have a leak in the petcock, vacuum to the gas side.
Does the bike run only in prime ?
Cool.
