Title: valve shim removal
Post by: frylockjim on October 03, 2013, 04:17:25 PM
does anybody know a good way to get those dang shims out of the bucket? i got the suzuki valve shim tool and was able to lower the bucket (the tool is not holding down the shims, just the bucket. i checked twice) and tried to pry it out with a screwdriver but that sucker is really in there.  :technical:  is there some special trick to it? i was also able to get the shim to rotate while the bucket was pressed down with the tools so i know it aint stuck.

A small sharp flat tipped screwdriver with the bucket rotated until you can use the slot (in the bucket) to get under the shim.

Steal a set of ordinary domestic tweezers from your dragon, squeeze the prongs together in a vice and bend them to approx 45degree angle, about 40-50mm down from the top, trim off the ends leaving about 4-5mm after the bend.
Try that... it's a pisser!

I use a T-pin and a magnetic tool.  Push the pin into the slot on the bucket, shim will pop up and stick to the magnetic wand, then pull the shim out.

As above. I tapped a name badge magnet to a pencil. Some people will say that you shouldn't put magnets anywhere near them though.
