Has anyone tried the new twinkies ?
How are they compared to the old twinkies.
Cool.
Buddha.
Taste just like the old ones to me.

Funny you should ask.
I ate them as a kid in the 80's but can't remember eating any since. When I first found out Hostess might go chapter 11 a couple of years ago I went out and bought 3 boxes. I told my son (he was 3 or 4 at the time) he needed to have a Twinkie so he would have the memory of what they taste like. Eventually we ate all three boxes not thinking they would actually go under. He saved the last wrapper so we could open it later and smell the goodness. Then one day I awoke to the news they closed up shop. I went on a 200mile mission on my GS hunting for some Twinkies. My son asked why? I told him I did not want to wind up like Woodie Harrelson in Zombie Land looking for the last Twinkie. Needless to say I came up empty handed after searching every store in a 100 mile radius. Ebay was selling them for upwards of $100 a box. This was about a year ago.
Fast forward to last week. My boy and I went to walmart for some stuff. Low and behold there they where in all their glory. I grabbed 2 boxes. We ripped then open in the parking lot. Grinning from ear to ear we sat there and ate them and life was good.
But, they are no the same. I remember the creme having a more gritty sugar texture. The ones we got a couple years ago and last week have more of a whipped creme filling. They are still good. That being said I will stock up on them so I we will never be without them again...even in the zombie apocalypse.
I wonder if they will still stay fresh for a 100 years like the old ones?
EDIT
I just ate one.
if you know any restauranteur, or have acess to a deep fryer. at 360 F, fry them for 25 seconds MAX. remove, set on paper towels to wick away grease. = OMG.
They are very similar. Some think there is a bit more cream filling than the old ones. I think they are actually slightly better than the original.
I want a twinkie but alas I am in Australia and the last time I saw one on the shelf was over 20 years ago.

He he he ... this is a standard trick of mine ... toast anything with sugar in it. Toasting a donut, toasting a rasgulla, toasting a twinkie ...
You're talking here of batter dipping and deep frying ... I have had those. I'd eat a twinkie as it is over that, but toasing other similar things is good.
Cool.

theres an indian grill/oven, id like to try to get my hands on, ive used one in th epast and did this with donuts :D. i enjoy cooking pastries, but as a diabetic i had to "hire" a taster lol. the new twinkies, although i dont consider them on par with the old ones, theyre not far off. im happy theyre not gone. if i can locate the proper pan, lil make my own verison.
OK a box-o-twinkie's are sitting on my desk ...
Toasting em for my afternoon snack today.
If I like em, I'll toast em all, if I dont I'll eat the other 9 as is.
Cool.
Buddha.
Toasted twinkies are da-bomb.
Put em upside down and toast em till 2 blobs of the filling the size of a thumb appear on top.
Then wait till it cools ... dont seinfeld your face with hot filling.
Cool.
Buddha.

Whichever ... the filling should bubble up and be like a little pebble placed on top ...
The bloody thing has so much sugar it will nicely caramelize ... You can sit it till the entire thing turns brown and it will still be awesome I'll bet.
Cool.

You dont wanna do that, 6 months it says on the box. And my wife says it did't smell "chemically" ... the girl famously returned a box of pepperidge farm Carrot cake cookies cos they smelled and tasted "chemically"
So maybe some non chemicals found their way into them twinkies.
Besides in australia as soon as it gets there some wombat or some kangaroo will eat it, and go nutso after getting addicted to it and it will be all over the news.
Cool.

Thats the whole idea, will get rid of their mythical drop bears, and send em up north to indonesia

He he ... the funnniest thing I heard with the word "chemical" was from my mexican mechanic.
I got him chinese food and I was eatting it with some wasabi. Tiny bits on my fork.
He thought it was some derivative of guacamole. I told him it was hot ... laughed cos I am a well known wuss ... (physical strength yes, I'll happily eat habanero and ask for more) ... and took a fork ful and gulped it ... and went thew ... thew thew ... "what is this chemicals"

hahahahah .. wasAAAAAAbi! .. :D .. love it!
.. several years ago .. i was on one of my Wasabi 'kicks' .. it goes on in small amounts on nearly every meal! ..
. the youngest daughter was making ham sandwiches for lunch .. (she was about 9 at the time) .. and very proud of her sandwich making skills! .. she asked if i wanted wasabi .. "yeah of course! thanks sweetie" ..
thing is about 9 year olds... they dont understand about 'hot' .. and volume ... so my sandwich gets delivered on a plate with 'specially folded napkin' too!! .. i can smell the tang of wasabi on the air... but didnt pay attention to HOW MUCH tang ...
munch munch munch :icon_eek: .. ermmm.... look at her standing there .. smiling like a sunflower.... gulp ...
munch munchmunch .... getting the headsweats now ... swallow... coughcough... 'can i have a glass of milk please darlin' ?" .. off she goes.... look in remaining half of sandwich .. wasabi layered in there like gravy! .. oh my lord!
... i ate every damn bite! .. you just cant disappoint a little face that was that happy! :icon_rolleyes: ;) :D

Did you know....
You can take a box of twinkies and melt them in a pot on the stove?
You can then take the hot golden liquid and pour it into your GS (for oil) and run it forever. The trick is you can never turn it off or it will cool and turn to a thick syrup making if very hard to start. This is true, just let it run forever.
You can also use it as chain lube. Your chain will last forever.
You can use it clean and wax any part on your bike and it will stay shiny forever.
Stuff one in your exhaust and it will make your bike really loud. Twinkies are will also be the last air filter you will ever need.
This is all true.
what about bar grips? .... seat padding? .... hell ... even runflat options for the tyres!! :D
True all that, but you'll be eaten alive by ants.
Cool.
Buddha.
Had a severe ant problem in AZ at the bank. id grab a few twinkies and sacrifice one, put a bit of arsenic on it, and set on ground. ants would attack and subsequently die. got rid of most of them.
I am not impressed with the knock off's from little debbie. Cloud cake isn't as good.
Twinkies rock, accept no substitute
Cool.

Nice work, now put em in a toaster over till they turn golden brown on the corners ... let it cool a bit - it crispens when it cools, and try it.
Cool.

indeed it is :)
I've never had a twinkie - new or old. I always wanted something with chocolate instead. Never had any interest.
Ooo Found a better twinkie - if you dont want to toast it.
A Zinger is a twinkie with a icing topping. Pretty nice but does not toast up.
Yea choclate, see choclate lovers have a huge trillion $$$ market serving them. You cant swing a candy cane round here without hitting somehting made of choclate. The crappiest thing is, they mix choclate and caramel as it were the same thing ... WTF ... Worse yet are the Idiots who say ... I like both, so I'm gonna slobber it all in this ... so I like peanut butter, I like sex, so I'm gonna slather peanut butter and ... well you comeplete that sentence ...
Anyway choclate is well peddled in 3 million forms and ratios and this and that and not that etc etc etc ...
Vanilla+vanilla+vanilla = heaven.
The british understand caramel ... so I guess I buy brit crap when I want that.
The americans cant even say caramel ... they say "carmel" yes, its a camel with an r ...
Rant over ... y'know its just an ant with an R.
Anyway twinkies rock, glad it came back, twinkies toasted simply rock 2 X as hard, if not your cup of tea to toast, try zingers. Yes I never was a big twinkie fan before and prolly will stop after the recent few box binge. I inherently dont like super processed food, and this bugger is a hard core super super processed food. I dont even drink soda ... so its a new one that I am eating twinkies.
Cool.
