Title: Wood gs500 sign
Post by: tcmia on October 06, 2013, 06:02:44 PM
I made this wood sign with the Suzuki and gs500e lettering. Its 12x8. 3 hangers to hang keys, jacket, hats on it. The back has 2 key slot holes to mount on the wall. This one is pine. Not clear coated yet. Will take a better picture tomorrow.

We MUST have one for the West Seattle Bike Cave!
How much? Oh, what the hell. I don't care how much - MUST    HAVE     ONE     NOW !

Unless he is a master woodcrafter, that would have been done with a CAD router

Gonna need more than 3 key hooks though! :icon_lol:

Cool. Glad you guys like it. It is it on a small CNC router that i bought used and rebuilt. I actually made it to hang my keys and stuff in the garage.
Addidas, I make you one. Do you want any wording changed or added? More key holders as suggested? Could use the double hooks instead.

I bet adding "West Seattle Bike Cave" somewhere on addidas' sign would be pretty sweet

Sears made a woot router a while back. a few hundred dollars that could do this. even importing pics and doing it that way

The Sears Cnc is the carvewright.  Those were 1600$. For the pictures to work right they need to be tweeked in the software. If they are too grainy the carve comes ou very fuzzy.

I would leave the E off the GS500 though or the other GS's might get jealous

wonder hwat it would look like in either mahogany or birdseye maple?, have quite a bit of both at house.

OK, I'll take off the "E".

Maple works really good. It machines very nice. Mahagony has a beautifull color, but is very soft.

Thanks.

Here is one without the "E" and rendered in mahogany. I probably run this one on the weekend in pine to see how it looks. I don't have any mahogany.

I love it so much I think I need at least 3
one for the alley entrance
1 for the other side of the cave (the side facing the house)
and one with coat hangers for our gear.

I'm so excited! (http://www.gs500.net/gallery/data/507/jumping0047.gif) (http://www.gs500.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/472/title/jumping0047/cat/507)

When you say large does it mean trunk size, truck size. What size are your boards?

I'd say 18" for the gear rack with probably 4 to 6" on the lower part to mount hooks.
The two up on the  buildings - 24" probably would work if you can do it.
A marine grade plywood could work just fine. Or join together narrower boards. The gear rack will be inside. The others will be out in the elements.

I liked the earlier one you rendered in mahogany. Because? The "West Seattle Bike Cave"was completely below the Suzuki logo. In the latest one, it is munched up to the Suzuki logo. Drop the WSBC text down so it doesn't interfere with the Suzuki logo.

Gotcha.  Its because of the board with. Home depot only had them in 1x6.   The wider boards were 2x10s. I need to plane them down to the right thickness. Lately they only nave crappy boards with lots of knots  and cracks. Not worth a flip.

This one is fresh of the machine. Have not sanded it yet.

So... How much does a sign like this run?! My garage is dying to have one on the wall :)

Would it also be possible to see what it looks like with the Suzuki logo and all but with GSX-R instead of GS500? Since I'm in GS limbo lol

Cool. Pretty much anything can go on there. Been a little busy the last view days. I need to draw one for Yama also. I have an activity this Saturday, but I get on it as soon as I can. I will draw it up and come up with a price, varies with size and run time.

I got mine. Nice! I need to clear coat them then highlight the lettering with Suzuki blue. Ir if outside, dirt would naturally make the lettering stand out.
Waiting for a dry day here. Seattle has been in a week of perpetual fog. EVERYTHING is wet - worse than rain. Even in the carport, everything is wet. Fog goes everywhere - rain just falls down so things covered stay dry.

Thanks guys for the kind words on the signs. I did not expect this  reaction.  :). Now that I ran a view, a price range depending on size in 35 to 50 plus s/h without the hocks. The ones I bought before were a special price. Now they only have the regular priced ones for 2-3$ each. I can get some of those, or you can mount them too. That's really easy to do.

i suppose the hooks, ( finish etc) would depend on finish of sign. some finishes imho wouldnt look right with silver, or gold etc or black, or titanium etc. but for each soon to be owner i guess that would be entirely up to them Eh? btw can you turn text sideways?, so it ( sign) could be hung vertically?
