Title: charging problem
Post by: everoily on October 08, 2013, 08:45:40 AM
My recently acquired GS500 has a charging problem. With lights on the meter shows 13.9v on idle rising to 14.4 at 2500rpm, and then drops away gradually to below 13.5v at 6000rpm. Alternator shows 75v at all three test points and reg is approx 6 ohms at test points, and appears to be ok. I have cleaned every connection and ground is ok. I've run out of ideas. Can anyone help? :dunno_black:

I've checked many bikes. They tend to do that for some reason. My guess is there is a limited amount of power generated. really fast doesn't generate that much more but you consume more power due to the spark plugs firing.
I think you are just fine.
You have a problem if you go over 15v or don't reach over 13v. You're over 14 at 2500-3500 then drops above that,  which is what I've noticed as the norm.

Thanks for your reply. I'll take your advice and hope it doesn't let me down. Wouldn't it be nice to have kick start back up option! My other bike has one. :thumb:
