I was inspecting my carbs and noticed that the needles didn't have a consistent finish. Upon closer inspection both needles are worn in two places and need to know if it warrants replacement.
Along the long axis, appears darker here due to lighting.

Small notches from engine vibration and slides fully down.

I can't see the mating surface well enough. Is this likely worn also? I thought that the apparently brass needle seat would be softer metal than needles.

Hmmmm how the hell do they wear?
That wear is not a problem. Its not that much.
However they do wear, The old style used to sorta wear evenly cos the needle used to spin in the emulsion tube.
The new style does not spin that well cos of the spring bearing on it. That makes them wear faster.
In any case, watch out for that, the emulsion tube is brass, it wears much less than aluminum.

Ha wish I could stock needles ... I'd be a millionaire, anyway yours are not bad, I've never seen a GS with these wore to the point of needing replacement.
Vulcan 1500's are notorious for destroying these. GS is not.
