Hi everyone,
i own a GS500 98, chain snapped whilst riding because got too slack, poor maintenance by me!.
anyway, after it snapped, i removed sprocket cover, pushrod is fine. was expecting some kind of damage, but couldn't really see any signs of anything wrong.
I removed pushrod whilst bike was on sidestand, and ive read this can lead to the pushrod ballbearing to fall out...however the clutch diagram does not list such a bearing on gs500 models.
im at a loss, pushrod seems fine, mechanism seems fine, doubt plates are fused together as that normally only happens when bike has been stood.
when i put bike in gear, rear wheel starts spinning whilst on centrestand in first, or if started when wheel is against floor, just jolts forward, even when clutch is pulled in.
anyone had this problem or know how to go about resolving?
have tried adjusting the clutch cable already btw at handle bars, and lower.

End of pushrod doesn't look right, did a piece break off? Pull out and check length.
around '4 1/2' inch (or 115mm or 11.5cm)
looking at both ends, they both have 100% the same slight groves at each end. couldnt have snapped like that.
Does the clutch still feel the same when you pull it as it did before?
Could it possibly be that the clutch plates are just really sticky?
The answer is under the cover, the Release Assy has to go in and out when you pull the lever, it pushes on the "pushrod". If the pushrod is the correct length and the Release Assy is going in and out, I would say check the Rough Clutch Adjustment :dunno_black:
Oh.....and add a little grease to the splines on that CSS :thumb:
EDIT: if all the above is working fine, then yes..the clutch plates are stuck

Do a complete 3 point clutch adjustment making sure the pushrod free play is set correctly as described in Suzuki Shop Manual:

While the cover is off make sure the rotating release assembly is extending out when it's rotated like Steve suggested.
Since nothing appears to be damaged i would confirm that the clutch plates arn't tightly stuck.
Clutch handle in,revs between 1500-1700 and put in gear.IF it stalls i would do gsJack's 3 point clutch adjustment.
