I think he means the fugley cowling looks small like something from a pocket bike.
Needs to be bigger for a GS500.
I love the white/red plastics. Too bad the tank isn't the original color.

It will be By the end of the week. I got tired of looking for a good used 1990 tank so I just bought a brand new one. Only downfall was that the only ones available was in silver... By the time it's all said and done it will still be original red and white with fairings and the 2009 decals, pretty much like your blue bike " SUZY "... can't wait for it all to be done and said. I just made a 300+ mile round trip to pick up a 2009 f frame. It's getting costly but in the end I'll have what I really want... TOYS, TOYS,TOYS....

Not meaning to burst your bubble buuuuuuuut......
I suspect that tank was painted and is not new. Original tanks were not in silver. And original tanks always had logos on them. 89-00 tanks had a black rubber "U" trim around the bottom, too.

Does it look new on the inside?

When done, it should look really good!

Yeah, that headlight thingy isn't working it for me. Sorry. I do like the red accents though.

My son and I have been long time sponsored by a dealership chain, Ackers from Ohio. We race flat track motorcycles. I am real good friends with the owners son for past 30+ years. Via our good luck of a good sponsor. We ordered the tank together after the old man left for the evening. Also before ordering we already knew that the color was only available now in silver to order a new one. It came spankin new as it can get, in bubble wrap and Suzuki box. Yes, the inside was shiny new. Had brand new rubber cushions on the bottom of the tank, a new rubber trim for the bottom lip of the tank but I used my original one because it already had the right shape to be easily applied to the new tank and the factory paper sticker on the bottom of tank with Suzuki S logo and part number. It listed for well over a $1000.00 dollars, needless to say I didn't pay just a little over $500.00,by the time I got out the door.  I called duck this morning after reading your mess. and he just called back after looking at original purchase and he reassures me that all parts are factory and that he doesn't order after market tanks because they can be ordered of the the web at the same price he would pay. Yea, in the end I,m sure its a new tank. Only thing duck said it that maybe it was only made that color for the foreign markets and this is what is left for stock orders being that the bike is all most 24 yrs. old. I did look at all my options before going with the new idea. But the 500 hundred tanks that are that old always seem to develop pin hole leaks mostly in the area where your upper thigh would rest against the tankand of course the rear lower seams on the underside. I have 2 extra tanks that are used and even went as far as to weld and even paint and stickered one of them. but just wasn't satisfied. So hence the the rest of the story. Yea , I'm really anticipating this project being done. I'm in the middle of another project for a customer on Bultaco Purenge. ( pretty sure there is some bad spelling ) But as you know its hard to stay focused on other things when you have all these new and used parts surrounding your "500"!!! LOLOL!!

A new silver 89-00 tank would have to be some other market. That was not a USA color and there always were logos. Sounds OK. Paint it to match and it will look good.

Just a little up date... Last night I got all the unnecessary brackets removed from my newly acquired 2009 frame and lowered the rear seat rests and cut, re-positioned and re-welded the rear upper grab bar. touched up all the crappy welds from the factory ( very low quality welding compared to the original 1990 E frame. If this 2009 frame doesn't have the silky smooth feeling at 100 mph. plus that the 1990 frame had I will so disappointed. I,m a hole 125 lbs. and you can really feel the vibrations in a frame when it's not solid. ) Fairings and frame are all primered and the only things left are paint and assembly.... mach up has went well so far,   I'll keep you posted.... :woohoo:

Well , hours in the garage are getting a little long and COLD! Did get a trinket for the Rooster.. cover for brake reservoir with Suzuki "S" Logo engraved in it . All the new bearings are now installed in swing arm, shock and bog bone mounts, may not be any more practical than the metal one but I do like the aluminum pivot better than the newer metal one.
All the coats of clear have been applied to the frame and the swing arm, cured time in, and every bit of the frame waxed 3 times since it may be a while before I see the inner parts of the frame after assembly. Spent a lot of time cleaning every nut and bolt and painting, clear coating them also.
R6 shock is on its way, too anxious to see the puzzle come together. I got in a hurry and forgot to leave the front fender off for the paint shop , sooo a little back tracking in coming up.
Warmer weather is still a little ways off so need to get in a slow down mode.. All will be good in the end....
