so...i just did a valve adjustment and i adjusted the floats and the pilot screw in the carbs and when i first started her up it ran great. It idled fine, and sounded good. Once i got it on the freeway going about 80, it started dying on me like it was running out of gas. I switched to reserve and it still kept dying. I then pulled over and switched it to prime and got back on the freeway and again, once i hit higher speeds, it jumped around like it was running out of gas and died on me. I still have plenty of fuel in the tank btw, and the bike seems to do fine when im at lower speeds, but once i get on the freeway and get up to higher speeds, itll just die on me.
*FIXED* It turned out to be the gas lines. The lining on the inside started coming off and partially blocked the fuel flow.
Vacuum lock in the tank, or petcock not flowing enough ...
Cool.
Buddha.
I had a similar issue where my GS felt like it ran out of fuel / stuttered / died at highway speeds.
I had misrouted the carb vent hose while putting the bike back together after fiddling about with the carbs - I think it meant air was blowing into the carbs creating a positive pressure, affecting the fuelling - but only highway speed winds could do it. I also had issues in crosswinds.
It's maybe worth trying to reroute the carb vent hose into a more sheltered location (I routed mine alongside the battery and insulated the end with wire wool, and that sorted it completely for me).
It's easy to do, so worth a shot!

yeah the hose is meant to go over the airbox and to the battery tray ;)
Yeah i was thinking it may have been the hoses. I checked them and rerouted to be safe. I did however notice that my gas line is wearing out from the inside. The lining inside is all bunched up and im thinking that may be the cause. It might not be allowing enough gas to go through when at high speeds. Just got a new gas line so im gonna go slap it on and test it
