Title: Oil Change Mystery Part
Post by: lexiyntax on November 27, 2013, 04:50:11 PM
Image attached of a plastic piece which was in my drain pan after an oil change (upper right; drain plug and washer included for size reference). I'm assuming it dropped into the oil pan from the crankcase, but I can't be 100% certain as I didn't see it actually come out of the hole. I am certain it wasn't in the pan before I started. Piece is about 1mm thick on the lighter edge coming to a sharp point on the opposite darker edge.

Engine is running fine, but I would like to further investigate where this part may have come from if anyone has ideas.

Lacquer or plastic ... it looks like the alternator lacquer.
Cool.

I have yet to see a rotor that didn't have some of the epoxy flake off the outer ends of the magnets.
That's what it is. Nothing to worry about.
