Title: GS swingarm in TS400
Post by: domn8tr on December 05, 2013, 09:31:31 PM
Hi Guys! came on here for a little info... Im building a TS400 cafe bike and I was going to use my VJ21 RGV250 suspension spares. The front is a simple stem swap but the swingarm is another matter.  I'm looking  at either a GS500 rear (3.5' rim) or GSF 400 (4.0") The Rgv swingarm is about 2mm too wide and looking At Ebay pics the GS500 Swingarm seems to have more trimable width at the pivot than the Bandit (plus theyre cheaper)  Are earlier GS500 swingarms narrower at the pivot? Though i saw that mentioned somewhere. Will GSF 4.0 rims fit GS swingarms? I'm looking at this http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-Suzuki-GS500F-Rear-wheel-swing-arm-/130930677336?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e7c139658&vxp=mtr

A Bandit 400 wheel will fit in a GS500 swingarm, but the hub is more narrow on the Bandit wheel. I believe all GS500 swingarms have the same dimensions (but could be very wrong). How wide is your TS swingarm at the pivot point (including the dust caps)?

The GS500 swingarm is much wider than the RGV250 swingarm at the pivot. You'll have to remove a lot of material to make it work.

I dont have a TS swingarm. the bike i bought was just motor , frame , tank and seat. The frame pivot width is 200mm. the RGV swingarm is 205 w/o dustcaps. I saw on other posts that GS racers like the RGV swingarm so i assumed it was near enough. I cant use the RGV swingarm because its too "tall". Originally i was going to put the RGV suspension on my RZ350 but I always wanted to build a single cafe bike. Oh yeah...TWO STROKES RULE!!!

I have these numbers written down (read: not in the garage measuring them right now):

GS500 pivot width = 8.625" with dust caps
Could trim off 3/8" total before getting into the "meat" of the swinger
GS450 pivot width = 8.25" with caps
Pivot bolt diameter on both = .510"

Hope that helps somehow.

Thanks thats a great help! 8.25 = 209.55mm. With that old a frame (74) I'm sure I'll have to trim what ever I find. the goal is to have at least a 3.5" twisted spoke to match the RGV 3.0 front wheel. The Gamma tire size is 110 so i want a 140 rear if possible. I was hoping to do a straight swap of a whole rear instead of too much mix/match/ fab. I suppose i could look for a gamma rear wheel and cut and re work my rear subframe :icon_rolleyes:

:embarassed: oops GS450 not monoshock  :dunno_black: the bandit 400 one actually looks to be more "trimmable" http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUZUKI-GSF400-BANDIT-GK75A-SWINGARM-/370544269593?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item564628d919&vxp=mtr
