Title: Faster zero to 60 upgrades?
Post by: slingmax23 on December 23, 2013, 11:37:29 PM
Don't know if this is the right place to ask but i was wondering if anyone knew of any mods or upgrades i could to to get faster 0-60 times? I don't mind to much if I loose top speed. I already went to a 14 tooth front sprocket and re-jetted the carbs. I have a 2006 GS500f k6. Thanks :thumb:

Lose 10 pounds. It's free, effective, and much easier than getting any significant increase in power out of a GS500.

Any good diet plans you know of?

Skinny tires will have less rolling resistance and weight, but you'll lose traction at the same time.  :dunno_black:

Nitrous? Weight loss is a good start on the bike and or your self.....210 and my bike feels like a slug. I know its not the bike =)
Exhaust might be a good start, air filter, some people even have retarted the timing 5°. And if your daring you could either have the motor bored out.....or do a motor swap  :dunno_black: :dunno_black: .....But at that point you better of getting a gsxr 1000

What jetting are you running now?
Have you changed the intake or exhaust? Or are they stock?

Dollar for dollar my vote would be a Ninja 650R, accept the GS for what it is or move on, the money it would take to gain enough HP to make a noticeable difference  would be better spent on a different bike  :whisper:

Agreed, Some people such as myself go for the intake, exhaust, and jets, some go full exhaust, and others mess with sprockets as you have. At some point it's best to move on to a bigger bike, sometimes i wish i had a gsxr 1000 but i still love my GS and when i do upgrade some day i'll still have it! it's an awesome put-around-town bike, gets me where i need to be and i can fix it with a Leatherman 99% of the time.

Although i did notice the difference when i added a new exhaust, intake, and jets simultaneously.

If you are intent on keeping the bike and trying to make it fast then:
do 1, 2, and 3 together
1. Intake (Pods or lunch box are probably going to be the best for you)
2. Exhaust (try and find a full exhaust kit (Vance & Hines [V&H] makes them for pre 2004 e models))
3. Jets - Ask the Buddha, The great Buddha knows all.
4. Sprocket (theres a whole chart on the main website but i would recommend finding what works best for you)
5. Aerodynamics (is it even worth it at this point??) you can find after-market fairings and wear race suits if you feel it is necessary!
6. Turbo (Yes, it's been done, no, it's not worth it unless you can do all the work yourself)

Best of luck!

1, 2, and 3 certainly make a big difference without affecting top speed; (I've done 1 and 3 and it's greatly improved)
I'd say do 4 after having at least done 3.  And this will affect the top speed as well as acceleration and responsiveness.

Making a GS do quicker zero to sixty times, oh that's a good one (http://www.runemasterstudios.com/graemlins/images/smilielol.gif)
