So, The wife and kids went to my In-Laws a few days before Christmas with the plan for me to come up on Christmas eve when I got out of work. Everything was going as planned until I realize the day before I leave that the Hub assembly on my car is on its way out. Of course being almost Christmas there is no way I can get it repaired in time so I come up with plan B... GS500. So my trusty bike is up for the challenge but oh by the way, I have three sizable presents that I was supposed to bring for the kiddos. Well with a liberal use of ratchet straps and bungee cords I devise this relatively hideous yet effective solution. I felt like one of those bikes you see in china or India with 500lbs of crap strapped to it but, it worked and my kids had an awesome Christmas. I was amazed at the amount of people who drove by with their phones out snapping picture as I zipped down the road.
Oh By the Way, the longest trip on my bike I had taken prior to this was about 50 miles compared to the 300 miles of this trip. Also, the weather had dropped into the 40s which to some might seem balmy, to me it's freezing especially since all of my gear is designed for the normal Florida 75+ degree weather. SO I had on Under Armor Compression pants, thermal pants, fleece lined jeans, windsuit pants and my Joerocket Phoenix pants. Up top I had a thermal top, t-shirt, long sleeve knit shirt, Joe Rocket Phoenix mesh jacket with liner, and a green flight jacket. Winter flight gloves, with hand warmers (by far the weakest link obviously) oh and my wife's scarf for good measure. It was quite the adventure.
